Hayfield High School Band Msg #19...Thank You for Successful Hayfield Home Game & VBODA Competition...Volunteer List Reminder for 28-30 Oct

Band Booster Family,

Prelude:  CONGRATULATIONS to everyone on the “EXCELLENT” rating for VBODA Competition!  Another great weekend of events honoring Matt Keeports & his family…such a blessingJ

Great...the football team is 2-0 in my absence for the past two weeks!  We should get a loss next Friday since I’ll be there for Seniors Game;)

First of all, THANK YOU to ALL the parents, siblings, student helpers, friends, and anyone else that volunteered!  This included getting the rental truck, sizing/fixing uniforms, loading/unloading the trucks, and so much more.

NOTE: I’m going to do something fairly risky & that is to recognize & thank everyone.  However, because of my old age, I’m certain that I’ll probably miss someone.  If I do, please send me an e-mail; so, I can correct my oversight:

Second, THANK YOU to Mr. Burke, Mr. Helm, and the other assistants!  Since I work so closely with them, I get to see how they're educating our students.  It's more than music; it's the whole person concept--hard work, integrity, and character building...these are life lessons:)

Third, please do three things for me:

- Congratulate your kid & give them a big hug

- Ask them how they can improve as an individual to help the band get better

(for example more practice, help someone else, etc)

- Ask yourself how you can help your kid as a Band Booster to get better for

the band (for example volunteer some of your time...they grow up quickly &

you don't want to miss it)

Fourth, a few reminders for next week & upcoming events for October:

26,27  m.b. rehearsal 2:30-4:30pm

28      SENIOR FOOTBALL GAME

- Atsuko Russell has volunteered for the 5th straight year to lead the boutonnieres-making effort to recognize our senior students.  Many of you have shown interest in helping.  Please meet @ 6 pm, Thur, 27 Oct @ our home: 6506 Langleigh Way, Alexandria, VA 22315.  If you plan on attending, please reply, so we can get a count of how many volunteers to expectJ  If you already know how to make boutonnieres, that’s great.  However, if it’s your 1st time, then please watch the following YouTube link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOAcOSwlKOc

Please bring scissors, if you have them.  The seniors will wear the boutonnieres during their half-time recognition @ Fri, 28 Oct home football gameJ

- For the Seniors’ Football Game, Fri, 28 Oct, we’ll need parents of non-seniors to really help as much as possible because all the parents of seniors will be on the field @ halftime with their senior student.  Usually, 1 song, then students & parents meet up front…names are announced & kids note is read.  Orange & white balloons used & goody bags passed out.

- I believe that Erin Fitzsimmons is working on the pictures of seniors that will be displayed during the gameJ
