Hayfield High School Band Msg #18...Thank You for Successful Hayfield Homecoming Parade through Hayfield Farm Homecoming Game, & Oakton Competition

Band Booster Family,

Prelude:  Another great weekend of events honoring Matt Keeports & his family…such a blessingJ

Extras:

-          Solo thanks to Jeffrey Eyink for fixing the flat tires on the huge & heavy drum major platform, saving us a lot of aches & pains

-          @ today’s competition, they announced that every band student that took SOL tests passed, but didn’t mention that each of the Band Booster parents has a high school diploma…except for Jeff who’s currently working on his GED, but he is @ this time tied with 3 others for classroom valedictorianJ

-          If I don’t show up to a home football game, then we win.  We should get another win next Friday since I’ll be away for business travel

First of all, congratulations to our Hayfield Marching Band students for another great performance…still no official word…just keeping checking our Band webpageJ

Second, THANK YOU to ALL the parents, siblings, student helpers, friends, and anyone else that volunteered today!  This included getting the rental truck, sizing/fixing uniforms, loading/unloading the trucks, and so much more.

NOTE: I’m going to do something fairly risky & that is to recognize & thank everyone.  However, because of my old age, I’m certain that I’ll probably miss someone.  If I do, please send me an e-mail; so, I can correct my oversight:

Third, THANK YOU to Mr. Burke, Mr. Helm, and the other assistants!  Since I work so closely with them, I get to see how they're educating our students.  It's more than music; it's the whole person concept--hard work, integrity, and character building...these are life lessons:)

Please see video links of today’s Oakton Competition…please feel free to share with family & friends:

Fourth, please do three things for me:

- Congratulate your kid & give them a big hug

- Ask them how they can improve as an individual to help the band get better

(for example more practice, help someone else, etc)

- Ask yourself how you can help your kid as a Band Booster to get better for

the band (for example volunteer some of your time...they grow up quickly &

you don't want to miss it)

NOTE: Both Dottie Andrews & I have seniors this year & will not be Band Booster Vice Prez or Prez; so, if you’re interested, please send me an e-mail.  This will help the transition & keep the legacy goingJ

Seventh, based on the rest of the week, attached is the most current Excel spreadsheet with volunteers to include those that I’ve noted on Sign-Up Genius.  We still need a few volunteer to donate water for the remaining home football games & other events.  Please see either Sign-Up Genius (http://signupgenius.com/go/hssband1 ) or the attached Excel spreadsheet.  Hope to see you all @ multiple events to support & cheer on our students.

Finally, our students REALLY NEED YOU!  As most teenagers, they will NEVER admit this.  Your VOLUNTEERISM is ESSENTIAL to THEIR SUCCESS!!!  Additionally, they really do APPRECIATE seeing you @ their various events cheering for them.  I hope to see ALL the parents volunteering @ various events throughout the year: )  If there is ANYTHING I can do or answer, please let me know.  Please keep the following links for future reference:
