RE: Marching Hawks This Week

CORRECTION:  This week’s football game is on THURSDAY and we are not participating because it is a Thursday game.  Sorry for the mistake.

Also, please don’t forget to get dinner at Ledo Pizza in Kingstowne tonight and support our band!  (Mention Hayfield Band if you want to call ahead for takeout.)

Good afternoon -

Hope everyone is enjoying these first days of (hot) autumn.  It looks like the weather will be cooling off just in time for competition weekend!

I know you all are good about checking the hayfieldbands.com bulletins page, but in case you missed it, here is the timing breakdown for the competition at North Stafford HS on Saturday:

            2:00pm- Report to field
            3:15pm- Dress
            4:15pm- Depart
5:00pm- Arrive at North Stafford HS
            6:30pm -Perform
            9:30pm -Awards
            10:15 -Depart
            11:00pm -Return to Hayfield
Don’t forget:  Food for the bus, money for a snack at the event, your black shoes and black socks, and…A winning attitude!

We still need volunteers to help with the event with loading/unloading equipment and carrying props and instruments to the field. If you are able to do any lifting/carrying/pushing, we need you!  Please see the SignUp Genius for volunteer opportunities for this weekend.  You will also receive an email reminder from our Communications Coordinator, Ann Veiga.  Please add her to your “safe” email list as she will be sending much correspondence in the months to come.

NOTE: We are NOT playing in Friday’s away game, however, there will be band practice from 3:15 – 4:15pm on Friday.

Looking ahead…Homecoming is next week!  The band will parade through the Hayfield Farms neighborhood before enjoying a pizza dinner in the band room.  Come out and support!

Have a great day -

Angie

Weekend Successes

Good morning –

Hopefully, everyone (kids especially) have had a chance to sleep in today.  Our kids worked so hard this weekend, and we should all be very proud of them!

First of all, thank you to all of the parents who chaperoned and brought in snacks and water for Friday’s game. Another win for Hayfield!  (P.S.  At this rate, don’t make solid plans for mid-November.  I see a possible play-off scenario in our future…)

Second – Tag Day.  Thanks to everyone’s hard work, we were able to make an additional $4,827.16 on Tag Day #2, bringing our grand total to $14,231.16 for both days!  That’s amazing!  Thank you very much to our Tag Day Chair, Theresa Larsen, for coordinating the days and getting us all out into the neighborhoods armed with envelopes and orange receipts.  Big thanks to all of the parents who drove, organized, and counted money.  Thank you to Mr. Burke for coming in early both days – especially after teaching all week and Friday night games.  And most of all, thank you to the kids who sacrificed their Saturday mornings to go door-to-door explaining to strangers what this band program means to them.  Their enthusiasm astounds me, and I am so proud of them!

And as if that wasn’t enough…our kids went to competition on Saturday evening and won SECOND PLACE in their class!  We got a big trophy and also scored “Best Percussion”!

Looking ahead to next week –

·         Marching Band rehearsals Tuesday – Thursday, 3:15 – 5:15pm

·         Home Football Game – Friday, 9/22 – there is no school this day, so the band reports to at 5:15pm

·         Please Note:  The Band Booster meeting previously scheduled for tomorrow, 9/18, will now be an officers’ planning session.  Please join us for the next scheduled Booster meeting on October 16 at 7:00pm.

Thank you all again for your time and support!

Marching Band at Friday's Game

Good evening –

Our band (Friday Band and Competition Band) is going to be playing at this Friday’s away game at Fairfax High School.  We still need chaperones for the bus and snack/water donations.

There is no rehearsal on Friday.  The band is to report to the band room at 5:15pm for departure to the game.  Please deliver any snack donations to the band room by 5:30pm.

Please consider taking a free ride on the bus!  Visit the SignUp Genius at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0b4baca92ea1ff2-2017.

Thank you so much for your support!

Tag Day #1 Recap and Next Saturday Schedule

Good evening -

I wanted to send a HUGE thank you to all of the parents and kids who participated in Tag Day today.  Our total today was $9,404.49, beating last year’s total by over $1,000!  This is enough to pay off what we owe the school for the new uniforms and will put some money in the bank to use towards other band needs.  Again, this would not have happened without your help, so thank you!

As hard as we tried, we were not able to complete all of the neighborhoods today, so we will have to go out again next Saturday.  Next weekend is going to be packed with an away game on Friday and a competition on Saturday.  We will attempt to start Tag Day next Saturday at 9:00am (with kids arriving early to catch breakfast, change into uniforms, and grab their instruments).  We will end the Tag Day portion at 1:00pm unless we are done sooner, which is possible.  Our wonderful Mr. Burke has offered to buy the kids participating in Tag Day pizza before loading the bus to the competition!

Here is the schedule for the competition:

September 16, 2017, Wood Grove Invitational

2:00pm- report to Hayfield

2:45 pm- depart

4:30pm- arrive at Woodgrove HS

6:00pm Perform

7:45 awards

8:30 Depart

10:00pm return to Hayfield

We are still looking for a few drivers for Tag Day and for a couple more chaperones for the competition.  Please visit the SignUp Genius if you can sign up to help.

Thanks again and enjoy your Sunday!

Tag Day is (almost) here!

Good evening, Band supporters –

There is no doubt about it - music is our life! And we need your help to keep the life in the Hayfield Band. Sign up now as a volunteer to drive our kids around the neighborhoods this Saturday, Sept. 9, for Tag Day, our biggest fundraiser of the year!

Don't miss out on the fun of shuttling around our band students who will be in full uniform, knocking on doors, and gleefully playing their instruments for money...uh, we mean, donations.

We need your help to make this fundraiser a success!
