Congratulationsto the students who earned seats in the District X All-District Honors Bands:
Wind Ensemble:  Jonathan Baik and Sonia Romero.
Symphonic Band:  Reese Cloud, Manna Tedelle, Veronica Quezada, Rachel Citron and Amy Tyeryar

Thanksto the volunteers who helped with fruit distribution and pickup.   Thanks to Kathleen Strausser, the Guitar Class and Linda Lichtman for helping to unload the fruit.  Thanks to Rafael Quezada and his father-in-law; Ken and Linda Lichtman; and Melvin Cloud for helping to distribute the fruit.

A special thanks to Linda Lichtman for organizing the fruit sale.  We sold 316 boxes of fruit this year!  Linda introduced the on-line ordering option this year.  Although we had a small number of online orders this year, online sales hold great opportunities for future years.  Thanks Linda for continuing to advance our fundraising.

Volunteers.  Thanks to those who have already signed up to help with Tiny Tots on Friday, Dec 14.  We still need volunteers for On Stage Helper and Back of Auditorium Helpers.  The concert begins at 9:30 a.m. in the auditorium.  If you are available for a couple hours on Friday morning, please consider helping with this event.  Go to SignUp Genius and let us know where you will help.

Hayfield Band Boosters (Message 28)--Update on Band Events

Greetings Boosters,

I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday.

We concluded our Fruit Sale earlier this month.  We sold over 300 boxes of fruit during the sale.  Many thanks to our Fruit Sale Chairperson, Linda Lichtman, for organizing this outstanding fundraiser.   The band will receive approximately $5 for every box sold.  Thanks for supporting the kids!

The new Marching Band jackets arrived!  Regrettably, they arrived too late to be used this season but we will be ready to go next marching season.  In January, we will begin unpacking the new uniforms as well as cataloguing them to streamline jacket assignment to returning band members.

The pace has slowed as we have transitioned to concert season.   However, there are a few near-term events that I would like to highlight.

Planning notes

Fruit Pickup, 4 December.    We need volunteers to help with fruit delivery on December 4.  The fruit will be delivered sometime during the day.  Our Chairperson will have a better idea about the times that volunteers are needed after the truck is loaded with our shipment.  So if you have some flexibility in your schedule please go to Signup Genius and let us know that you can help.   This is also an excellent opportunity for the students to contribute so please encourage them to help also.

Concert, 13 December.  The first concert of the season will begin at 7 p.m. in the Hayfield auditorium.

Tiny Tots Concert,  December 14.  The Tiny Tots Concert will be held in Hayfield auditorium at 9:30 a.m.  The Band will present costumed characters and play holiday music to an enthusiastic audience of elementary school students. We need your help to execute this Hayfield tradition.  We have the following volunteer needs:  Costume Helpers, On Stage Helpers, Front Row Helpers, Back of Auditorium Helpers.  If you have a couple of hours available on the 14th, please go to Signup Genius and let us know where you will help.

Spring Trip, April 17-21.  The trip includes lodging, bus transportation, adjudication and performance fees, 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners, a 3-day park-hopper pass to Walt Disney World Parks, dining coupons for the parks and a dinner show experience.  Students will need to bring money for 1 dinner, 2 breakfasts, 4 lunches and money for shopping.  The cost is $680 dollars, payable in 5 payments of $136.  The third payment will be due January 4 with additional payments due February 1, and March 1.  Checks should be payable to Hayfield Secondary School.  Note:  the cost of each student's trip will be adjusted with any fundraising credits that he/she accrues in his/her Booster organization account.

. We still need volunteers for setup and cleanup at the Awards Dinner, November 7.

Fruit Sale: We've extended the fruit sale until November 14!  Fruit sales have not reached the levels that we had hoped for. In this final week, please encourage your student to reach out to neighbors, friends and family to give them the opportunity to buy delicious Florida-grown fruit. Linda Lichtman has prepared a flyer with the new end date. Please consider making a few copies of the flyer and distributing it throughout your neighborhood, at other school activities, and community events. We plan to distribute the flyers at the upcoming Touching Base event on 12 November. Let us know if you're willing to do the same.

Navel oranges and red grapefruit are offered for $18.00 for a box of 16-18 navel oranges or 8-10 red grapefruit. Mixed boxes of 6-8 oranges and 5 grapefruit are available for $20.00. Fruit will be delivered in early December.

You can order online this year at https://www.floridaindianrivergroves.com/shopnow.asp?id=593029.If ordering online, please use your student's seller ID (obtainable by e-mail from lindalichtman@yahoo.com) to ensure the sale is properly credited. Ordering online offers two delivery options--delivery to Hayfield or delivery directly to a home address. The price when delivering to Hayfield will be the same as quoted above. The price per box when delivered to a different location will be $35.00 per box.  I've used this option several times and it couldn't be simpler to accomplish.

Remember, you can order online this year at https://www.floridaindianrivergroves.com/shopnow.asp?id=593029. If ordering online, please use your student's seller ID (obtainable by e-mail from lindalichtman@yahoo.com) to ensure the sale is properly credited. Ordering online offers two delivery options--delivery to Hayfield or delivery directly to a home address. The price when delivering to Hayfield will be the same as quoted above. The price per box when delivered to a different location will be $35.00 per box.

Drum Line.  Mr. Helm is making the initial announcement for Drum Line.
The first indoor drumline rehearsal will take place this Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 2:30pm until 4:00pm.
Initial instrument assignments will be made and we will work through some of the music. All band students are welcome to try-out for the group regardless of their primary instrument. An updated schedule will be available soon, including a list of rehearsals (usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm-6:30pm), a parent meeting (soon), and competitions.

Spring Trip.  The Spring trip is scheduled for April 17-21. The second payment is due November 15 with additional payments due January 4, February 1, and March 1.  Checks should be payable to Hayfield Secondary School.  Note:  the cost of each student's trip will be adjusted with any fundraising credits that he/she accrues in his/her Booster organization account.

Band Booster Membership. I am attaching a Band Booster membership form. Annual membership in Band Boosters is $10 per person and $20 per family. You can become a patron by donating $30 or more. Patrons are acknowledged on each band concert program. You can mail your donation or have your student place it in the Booster drop box across from Mr. Burke's office.

Pictures and Videos.  Thanks to those who have provided pictures of the band.  We still need more.  If you have taken pictures and recorded videos of the band throughout the season, please share them with us. We would like to show some of them at the Band Awards Dinner in November. Please send copies to HawKBandBooster@verizon.net or call me to get the details on how to upload them directly to the Band's Shutterfly account.  All submissions are needed NLT 2 November.
