Hayfield Band Boosters (Message 30): Fittings for Concert Dresses, Friday, November 1

Dottie Andrews has agreed to measure the girls for their concert band dresses. She will be in the band room on Friday, November 1 during band class to take the measurements.  If your daughter already owns a dress, please have her try it on to ensure it still fits.  If it does not, she should be measured during the designated periods when Dottie is in the band room.

Please send your check on Friday, November 1, for $65 payable to Hayfield Band Boosters and we will order the dresses in one shipment. Ordering now will ensure that the dresses arrive prior to concert in December.

Hayfield Band Boosters (Message 29): Home Football Game Against Falls Church; Senior Night, November 1

Greetings Boosters,

Many thanks to all who supported the band on Friday night.  Following are a few of the ways you helped:

Snacks and Water:  Liz Brent, Kelley John, Ben and Janaia DeShields, Eva Romero, Carol Citron, Emily Comsti, Seema Poputya
Uniforms:  Patrick Cloud, Eva Romero, Julie Do, Emily Comsti
Pizza Setup and Cleanup:  Emily Comsti, Janaia DeShields and Carol Citron
Equipment Movement:  Michael Adams, John Hishta, Melvin Cloud, Patrick Cloud, Julie Do, and Mark Dalton

This Week's Activities

Home Game.  We will be playing Falls Church on Friday Night.  The students will practice after school and pizza will be served at 5:00 p.m.  Friday night is also Senior Recognition night.  The Band Boosters will present boutonnieres to our 16 graduating Seniors.

There are many volunteer needs for Friday.  Please go to Signup Genius http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D49AEAD23A02-hssband2 and let us know where you will help.

Fruit Sale.  The Fruit Sale is underway!  Students are selling delicious fresh Florida navel oranges and red grapefruit through November 1.   The fruit is picked and shipped within 48 hours of delivery to our school, and is the best that Florida has to offer.   The fruit will be delivered in early December.

Encourage your student to ask everyone they know – family, friends, neighbors, teachers, former band families, etc. – if they would like to buy fruit. You can even ask your coworkers. You'll be surprised how many people really look forward to our fruit sale each year. Some will buy it to help the band, others will buy it because they like your kid, and many will buy it just because they really enjoy the fruit!

Also consider sharing our online site with friends, relatives, acquaintances who may be outside the local delivery area.  Just send them the following link https://www.floridaindianrivergroves.com/orderFundraising_pre11.asp?OrgId=593029 and let the shopping begin.   Take a look at the option to have fruit delivered to the buyer's door.  This option offers a wider variety of fruit and treat combinations.  Additionally, when selecting home delivery, the buyer can elect to have the fruit delivered as soon as possible, pre-Thanksgiving or pre-Christmas.   I have used the home delivery option to send fruit to friends and family and it works great.  If you have questions about the fruit sale, please don't hesitate to send us a note.

Remember:  Students earn money in the form of credits to their Spring Trip accounts for each box of fruit sold.

Other Notes

Boys concert uniform.  The concert season begins in December and there have been questions about the uniform requirement for boys.  Boys require a black tuxedo with black cummerbund, white shirt, and bowtie. You can get them at JC Penny's, The Men's Wearhouse, or online. We have received feedback that the Formal Fashions Inc website https://www.formalfashionsinc.com/index2.php has been used successfully. This site offers a $92.50 package that includes the tuxedo, shirt, cummerbund and bowtie (select Value Packages under the menswear tab).

November Restaurant Night.  Our next fundraiser will be at Firehouse Subs, Kingstowne, on Wednesday, November 13Firehouse Subs will return 20% of the total sales attributed to the Hayfield Band.

Send photos.   I need band photos for a slide show that will be shown at the Marching Band Awards Dinner in November.  If you have photos from any of the games, please share them with us.  Please send them to Hawkbandbooster@aol.com.

Spring Trip.  The Spring Trip is planned for May 1-3.  This year the band will be traveling to New York, New York. The purpose of the trip is to perform and participate in an informal workshop with highly skilled clinicians at a leading national university.  The trip includes bus transportation, two nights lodging, clinicians' honoraria, two breakfasts, one lunch, three dinners, a ticket to a major Broadway performance, and admission to New York attractions.  Students will need to bring money for one breakfast, two lunches, and leisurely shopping.  The cost is $600 and will be divided into 5 payments of $120.00.  Payment #2 is due by November 1.  The remaining payment schedule follows:  Payment 3 is due by January 10; Payment 4 is due by February 7; and Payment 5 is due by March 7.

Checks should be made payable to Hayfield Secondary School.  Payment 5 may be adjusted using any credit in a student's fundraising account (from Tag Day participation or fruit sales).  There are also chaperone opportunities for the trip.  Chaperone costs are the same as the student cost; payments are due on the same schedule.

Volunteers Needed.  The Band Boosters run on volunteer power.  There are many needs throughout the year, particularly during football season.  Distributing uniforms, helping with pizza dinners, moving equipment, donating water and snacks, etc. are a few of the many needs.  Please pitch in so that we spread the workload.  Plus, your kids will get a kick out of seeing Mom and Dad!  We use Signup Genius to organize volunteers.   If you haven't volunteered this season, I encourage you to go to our Signup Genius site http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D49AEAD23A02-hssband2 and let us know where you will help.

Become a Band Patron.  You can support the band program with a Band Booster membership.  Annual membership is $10 per person or $20 per family.  For a donation of $30 or more, you will be designated a patron and recognized on the concert programs.  Your contributions help to defray the costs of music, uniforms and instruments.  All donations are tax deductible.  The form is available on the band web site http://hayfieldbands.com/id72.html.  If you are interested, please place your completed form and your contribution in the Band Booster box that is located in the Band Room.

Hayfield Band Boosters (Message 23): Fruit Sale Information and Files

Hayfield Secondary School Band Boosters
 Annual Florida Citrus Fruit Sale
October 15 – November 1
Delivery: December 5, 2013

Parents, have you ever wondered how you can help the band boosters support the band program and earn money toward your student's spring band trip?
It's easy! Each year our band sells delicious fresh Florida navel oranges and red grapefruit in October for delivery in December. The fruit is picked and shipped within 48 hours of delivery to our school, and is the best that Florida has to offer.
During the sale, encourage your student to ask everyone they know – family, friends, neighbors, teachers, former band families, mail carriers, etc. – if they would like to buy fruit. You can even ask your coworkers. You'll be surprised how many people really look forward to our fruit sale each year. Some will buy it to help the band, others will buy it because they like your kid, and many will buy it just because they really enjoy the fruit!
Students will earn money in the form of credits to their spring trip accounts for each box of fruit you and they sell. The more they sell, the less the trip will cost. Some students have sold enough boxes to cover the final few payments of their trips.
Band students will be selling both single variety and mixed 10 lb. boxes of fruit this year.
Students may take an order for fruit from a customer either in person or have their customer order online directly from the fruit company. In person, the student records the orders on the attached order form, collects checks or cash, and then submits the order form and collected monies to the band. Online, the customer can be contacted by email, then order online directly from the fruit company whenever it's convenient, and pay by credit or debit card. When the online orders are picked up at the school, the student will receive the customers' names and addresses to whom they will then deliver the fruit. Please see the online ordering instruction sheet for more information. The online ordering instructions may be copied and distributed to the student's customers who would like to order online. More information is on the band website http://www.hayfieldbands.com/ under the Fruit Sale tab.
Microsoft Word and Excel Spreadsheet files have been developed and used by a band booster parent to help manage and increase her students' sales. Some of the files include an order spreadsheet, a customizable word document that you can pass around to your coworkers at your office, and an email template to send to your friends and relatives. These files are attached to this email for your use.
Four sheets of paper are being sent home with your students. They include a) this letter, b) online ordering instructions with order form, c) the customizable form already customized that you can share with your coworkers, d) fruit order form from Florida Indian River Groves. On most of these, you can find your student's name, band, and Seller ID code.
If you have any questions, there is a Contact Us button on the fruit company's website that can be found on the band website linked above.
Thank you for your support and for helping to make our fruit sale fundraiser a success!!!
