Hayfield Band Boosters (Message 13)--Urgent Need for Pit Crew Volunteers for Herndon Competition, Sep 29

We still need 3 more volunteers for the band competition to be held at Herndon High School, September 29.   Volunteers are needed for the Pit Crew.  The Pit Crew will load the truck at Hayfield; unload the truck in Herndon; assist in getting the equipment onto the field for the competition; re-load the truck after the competition; and unload the truck at Hayfield.

During competition, it is important that equipment be placed on the field quickly, so volunteers are absolutely essential.   We need to ensure that our kids are not penalized by our failure to get the equipment onto/off of the field.

Planning Notes

Fitting for concert dresses. Michelle Haskel has agreed to measure our girls for their concert band dresses. Michelle will be in the band room on Tuesday 9/25 for the Symphonic Band and Wednesday, 9/26 for the Wind Ensemble. If your daughter already owns a dress, please have her try it on to ensure it still fits. If it does not, she should be measured during the designated periods when Michelle is in the band room. Please send a check on the day that measurements are taken for $65 payable to Hayfield Band Boosters and we will order the dresses in one shipment. Ordering now will ensure that the dresses arrive prior to concert in December.

Boys concert uniform.  Boys require a black tuxedo with black cummerbund, white shirt, and bowtie. You can get them at JC Penny's, The Men'sWearhouse, or online. This site offers a $92.50 package that includes the tuxedo, shirt, cummerbund and bowtie (select Value Packages under the menswear tab).

Hayfield Band Boosters (Message 11)--Volunteers for Friday Night and Concert Dresses

Boosters

If you have not volunteered this year, please consider doing so now.  The kids will probably not tell you how important it is to see you supporting their activities but I know it means a lot to them. We appreciate your support as well. Collectively, we are making a difference for our kids and the bands.

We have several slots still open for the football game Friday, September 21.   Our kids desperately need 4 cases of water.  This is vital to ensure that the kids remain hydrated throughout the game.  We also need 2 additional snack donations (2 dozen servings each) for the kids to munch on during the game.  This week we will have the Middle Schoolers with us so we will be supporting a larger band.  Finally, we need at least 3 additional volunteers for the Pit Crew.  The Pit Crew moves the equipment from the band room to the field and back.  There is a lot of equipment this year.

Please go to Signup Genius and let us know where you will help as soon as possible so that we can plan for Friday night.

Other Notes
Thank you.  A special thanks to Eva Romero for stepping up to make needed repairs to our band uniforms last week.

Hayfield Band Boosters (Message 10)--Tag Day Wrap Up and Football Game Friday, September 21

Greetings Boosters,

Way to go Band!  Another great week and outstanding efforts by all.  The band took the field Friday night and awed the crowd with their show Japanese Renaissance.  They will continue to refine the show in preparation for the competition on September 29.  More to come on the upcoming competition.

Thanks to the Boosters who supported the football game Friday Night.  We can not do it without you!
Leslie Bell, Cyntia Rodriguez, Kelley John and Donita McDonald for the delicious snacks
Cecilia Bishop, Ellen Hishta, Catherine Kingsley, and Eva Romero for providing water
Simon John, John Hishta, Melvin Cloud, Andre Copeland, Jered Tupekand Rafael Quezada for being an awesome Pit Crew
Rafael Quezada for stands setup
Melvin Cloud, Patrick Cloud and Carolyn Campbell for helping with uniforms before and after the game
All of you that were there to cheer the band on during their first performance.  They need and appreciate your support!

After a late Friday night, band members and parents were out at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning to support Tag Day #2.  The turnout to support Tag Day #2 was phenomenal.  We sent 8 teams of students out to collect donations.  Our Treasurer, Ken Lichtman, provided the following report on our Tag Day Fundraiser
Tag day went well. All the kids seemed to have an enjoyable day. Lots of good friendship and time spent together. A really important shared bonding experience for the kids that will help the kids grow as a cohesive unit.
Collections were great. Everyone should be very proud of their efforts.
Results from Tag Day 1 were: $6792 collected in cash and checks. Tag Day 2 results were $3771 collected in cash and checks for a two day total of $10,563 which is just outstanding considering the size of the band and the number of groups that went out knocking on doors and reaching out to the community.
And the community really stepped up.  A big THANK YOU to the community!
And on top of the donations we received in hand, in just the first week of mail in donations, we have already received 35 mail in donations totalling $1025.  Which brings our grand total so far, after just just the first week to $11,588.  Outstanding!
All of the members of the band community involved with tag day should be very proud with a special work of thanks beginning with the organizers of tag day, the drivers, the counters and of course, the kids.
As Ken indicated above, donations will continue to come in from the thousands of envelopes distributed by the band throughout the community.  Ken will provide a full report on donations at the Band Booster Meeting on October 3.

Thanks to all of the Boosters that helped make Tag Day #2 so successful:
Michelle Booth and Ellen Hishta for taking on the task of organizing our most important fundraiser
Simon John, Linda Lichtman, Andrea Copeland, Emma and Rogerio Silverio, Sharon FussellMichael Adams, Bob Kingley, John Hishta for driving and keeping the kids safe.
LeslieBell and Rafael Quezada for the delicious food items
Kristy Baik, Sharon Fussell, Catherine Kingsley, and Rafael Quezada for tallying the donations

Near Term Volunteer Needs
The Band Booster program is fueled by volunteerism. Thanks to all of you who have already signed up for the various fall activities. I am thrilled that many of the slots are already filled for the season. We could not provide the support without your help. There are a few opportunities still open.
Uniform Maintenance. If you can volunteer a couple of hours on during the school day Tuesday-Thursday to repair uniforms, please send me a note. The repairs are primarily sewing on buttons.

Football Game, September 21. There are still several volunteer opportunities to support the game.  We especially need more snacks and water donations as well as more equipment helpers.  The band uses a lot of equipment for this show.  We were successful in getting it to the field for the game on September 15, but it required several trips by the volunteers.  We need more volunteers to get the equipment to the field and back into the band room more quickly.

Restaurant Nights.  If you are interested in organizing a restaurant night, please send me a note.  In the past, we have worked with area restaurants to designate a night where a portion of the sales generated by the Hayfield community are given to the Band Boosters.  You will be responsible for negotiating the details with the restaurant.

Planning Notes
Middle School Participation Night with the High School Marching Band, Friday, September 21.  Middle School Participation Night is an opportunity for Middle School Band Students to experience a marching band performance at a high school football game.  They will perform the National Anthem and the Hayfield Fight Song along with the High School marching band during the pre-game ceremony.  They will sit with marching band in the bleachers and play pep songs.  Please come out and give your support to the future Hayfield band members!

The Fruit Sale begins October 9 and our organizer, Linda Lichtman, is investigating innovative ways to increase our sales, including on-line orders.  We will provide more details as the kickoff for the fruit sale gets closer.

Concert Uniforms.  Band members wear the tuxedo or long black dress for the December Concert, February concert, adjudications in March, the Spring Trip and the June concert.   Boys require a black tuxedo with black cummerbund, white shirt, and bowtie.  You can get them at JC Penny's, The Men'sWearhouse, or online.    We have received feedback that the Formal Fashions Inc website www.formalfashionsinc.com has been used successfully. This site offers a $92.50 package that includes the tuxedo, shirt, cummerbund and bowtie (select Value Packages under the menswear tab).   We are making plans to measure the girls for the long black dresses (if they don't already own one from a previous year) the week of September 24 during class time.

Securing valuables.  Recently a band member experienced a loss of property during an after school rehearsal.  The school will continue to do everything possible to secure the room and ensure this does not occur in the future.  Please remind the kids to be vigilant in safeguarding their valuables, even in the band room.  Lockers are available to all students if they want one.

I encourage you to go to the SignUp Genius and let us know where you will help. Don't forget that students and siblings can also volunteer for citizenship credit (and it looks good on college applications!). So, if they are looking for volunteer hours, consider the Band Boosters.

Hayfield Band Boosters (Message 8)--Football Game on Friday; Tag Day #2 on Saturday

Greetings Boosters,

Way to go Band! The kids canvassed Hayfield SS neighborhoods yesterday and collected $6792 for our bands.  They also distributed hundreds of donation envelopes to those residences where no one was home.   Tag Day is an enormous undertaking and I want to congratulate Michelle Booth and Ellen Hishta for skillfully organizing it for us.  They spent countless hours mapping and prioritizing the neighborhoods, assembling the teams, and preparing the kits and collection envelopes.  Thanks also to our Treasurer, Ken Lichtman, for validating the totals.

Thanks to all of the volunteers that helped make Tag Day #1 a phenomenol success.  My apologies in advance if I missed anyone.

Leslie Bell, Emma and Rogerio Silverio, Sharon Fussell, Linda Lichtman, Andrea Copeland, Hsin Chang, Michelle Paxton, Nava Ezra and Kate and Ronald Schmidt for driving and keeping the kids safe.
Natalie Carter, Rafael Quezada, Eva Romero and Sherri Tupik for the delicious food items and juice.
Patrick Cloud for ensuring all students had water before leaving the school
Kelley John, Catherine Kingsley, Rafael Quezada for tallying the donations and assembling envelopes for Tag Day #2

Tag Day #2
The final Tag Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 15. The students will finish any neighborhoods that were not completed during Tag Day #1 and canvass the remaining neighborhoods.  We expect Tag Day #2 to be a shorter day; students will complete their assignments no later than 1:00 p.m

Students and drivers should report to the Band Room on Saturday at 8:00 a.m.  Students will change into their band uniforms, be matched with drivers and routes will be assigned.  It is important that both students and drivers arrive on time.  Routes/neighborhoods will be assigned to groups of 4 based on signup preferences but substitutions may be made in cases where students have not arrived.
