Band Booster Family,

Prelude: There are a lot of lessons I’ve learned in life, and here are two gems:

1.       Family is more important than work

2.       Even with a full-time job in the military/Dept of Defense during almost a decade of wars, I made time for my kids

Because of the great volunteer spirit of the Band Boosters, I found it fairly easy being the Band Booster Prez for three different years.  We’re still looking for volunteers for the last two officer positions: Prez & Vice Prez.  Additionally, I’ll still be in the area, have a lot of pass-on notes, & you can use all my “spam” e-mails as a template: )  Please let me know by relpying.

First of all, THANK YOU to ALL the parents, siblings, student helpers, friends, and anyone else that volunteered!  With great weather, today’s Hayfield Farm Parade was the largest one I’ve seen in my seven years as a Band Booster.

Second, upcoming events for November:

Nov 9      MARCHING BAND AWARDS Potluck/Supper - 6:00 pm:

On Wednesday, November 9, 2011, the Marching Band will hold our annual “Awards Potluck/Supper” at the school, Middle School Lecture Hall at 6 pm. It will begin with a quick 5-10 minute 2011 Marching Band journey video, followed by food/drinks, then onto student-led awards, ending with Director awards. We ask that you bring a dish/items to share by 5:45 pm to the food/drink tables: )

PS: For the potluck/supper, please plan on bringing the following based on your last name beginning with:

A-M = Side dish & dessert

N-Z = Main dish

The Band Boosters will provide sodas and paper products and utensils.

NOTE: If you take pictures/videos of our band students, I request that you either e-mail them to me or put them on CD/DVD & pass them to my son, Justin Russell; so, I can use them for the slide show during the Marching Band Awards, Wed, 9 Nov

Nov 11, 18, & 25   Football Playoffs:

Assuming the Hayfield football team will be in the playoffs, we may have a few more home football games; however, @ this time, we don’t know for certain.  If we do have playoff games @ home, we will have the opportunity to shine again in terms of volunteer opportunities.  I’ll keep you posted.

Third, miscellaneous items:

-          Second payment of $136 for November 1st for the Band Spring Trip, 18-22 Apr to Atlanta, GA…other payments due in January 4th, February 1st, & March 1st http://www.hayfieldbands.com/id76.html

-          Thank you to Linda Lichtman for volunteering to organize Band Fruit Sale Fundraiser, which ends this week, Nov 4.  Please see attached forms and share the following link http://www.hayfieldbands.com/id33.html with all of your family & friends, post on Facebook or any other social media you can think of…let’s get the word out

-          Thank you to Dee Gardner for volunteering to organize Band Booster Boardwalk Fresh Burgers and Fries Restaurant Fundraiser all day Tuesday, November 22…coupon attached.  Please share the coupon with all of your family & friends, post on Facebook or any other social media you can think of…let’s get the word out

-          As we prepare for the indoor concert/symphonic season, one of the lessons learned these past six years, is that the students ALWAYS say that they wish they had started practicing sooner & more for All-District Auditions, scheduled for Sat, 10 Dec.  Parents need to encourage their students put extra personal time into this: )

-          If you have any tuxedos or accessories that you either want to donate, trade, or sell, please send me detailed info & I’ll advertise through Band Booster e-mails

1.       Reply to me if you can use the following tux donated by the Lichtman family: 34R Jacket, 28R Pants (28" inseam hemmed), bow tie, cummerbund.

-          Mr. Burke shared a UVA Band Day trip opportunity for 20 Feb…more info to follow

-          Parents of seniors, it’s not too early to be thinking about the 3 pictures (baby pic, kid pic, & senior pic) you want to use for the Final Concert, Wed, 6 Jun 2012

Again, if I haven’t said it enough or lately, THANK YOU!  You’re rocking as parents/siblings, your Band students LOVE you for it, & the Band Booster Family is living the good life: )

Finally, our students REALLY NEED YOU!  As most teenagers, they will NEVER admit this.  Your VOLUNTEERISM is ESSENTIAL to THEIR SUCCESS!!!  Additionally, they really do APPRECIATE seeing you @ their various events cheering for them.  I hope to see ALL the parents volunteering @ various events throughout the year: )  If there is ANYTHING I can do or answer, please let me know.  Please keep the following links for future reference:

Hayfield High School Band Msg #22...Band Boosters Fruit Sale Final Week

Final Week

Hayfield Secondary School Band Boosters

 Annual Florida Citrus Fruit Sale

October 11 – November 4

Delivery: December 8, 2011

Have you ever wondered how you can help the band boosters support the band program and earn money towards your student's spring band trip?

It's easy!  Each year our band sells delicious fresh Florida navel oranges and red grapefruit in October for delivery in December. The fruit is picked and shipped within 48 hours of delivery to our school, and is the best that Florida has to offer.

During the sale, encourage your student to ask everyone they know – family, friends, neighbors, teachers, former band families, mail carriers, etc. – if they would like to buy fruit.  You can even ask your coworkers.  You'll be surprised how many people really look forward to our fruit sale each year.  Some will buy it to help the band, others will buy it because they like your kid, and many will buy it just because they really enjoy the fruit.

Students will earn money in the form of credits to their spring trip accounts for each box of fruit you and they sell.  The more they sell, the less the trip will cost.  Some students have sold enough boxes to cover the final few payments of their trips.

Band students will be selling both single variety and mixed 10 lb. boxes of fruit this year.

Boxes of 16-18 Navel Oranges -- $18.00

Boxes of 8-10 Red Grapefruit -- $18.00

Mixed boxes of 6-8 Oranges and 5 Grapefruit -- $20.00

The following files are attached for your convenience

1.  An EXCEL spreadsheet useful for tracking your sales especially if you have more than one or two orders.
You enter the customer's information and quantity of fruit ordered, and the spreadsheet will calculate the amount of the sale  It also allows you to keep track of cash and checks received and shows the outstanding balance.  Please print and return a completed copy of the spreadsheet with your order.  Be sure that you have entered your student's name and your email and phone number in case we have any questions.  (Fruit sales.xls)

2. A customizable WORD document that your parents can circulate around their office.  First download the document, then change the information that pertains to your child such as choosing son or daughter, adding in your child's name, the instrument and band(s) played in.  Print and then circulate the form around your office.  Be sure to sign the bottom, under Thanks again.  An order form is also attached for your convenience and can be printed on the back of the customizable document.  (customizable fruit info.doc)

3. additional order forms. (fruit order form.doc)

Please have your student put your completed order and payment in the band mailbox behind Mr. Burke's office.  If you choose to use the spreadsheet, you may email your completed spreadsheet to me at lindalichtman@yahoo.com, then submit your payment to the band mailbox.  If you are the parent of an alumni or friend of the band or just like fruit, mail your completed order including your email and phone number and payment to

Band Booster Family,

Quick notes:
- At tonight's home football game, we will honor Seniors & their parents of the Marching Band. Reminder parents of seniors need to meet down by the fence in front of the Band section about 3 minutes prior to halftime for further instructions/guidance

- All volunteers are reminded to re-read the e-mail below for their times & activities...especially highlight that equipment personnel need to meet no later than 6 pm since I've received e-mails from two volunteers that needed to drop for other priorities

- Everyone needs to review e-mail below regarding timing & locations for Hayfield Farm Fall Parade Sunday, 30 Oct...this is always a fun time for all involved

- Finally, a few thank yous:
-- Thank you to Kristy Baik putting together our first restaurant fundraiser of the year @ UNOs. Atsuko & I had a great time & hope a lot of you were able to enjoy the food & make some $ for the Band
-- Thank you to Atsuko Russell, Diana Payne, Elsa & Robert Palting for making about 20 boutonnieres for our Band Seniors tonight

PS: Dress warmly & bring some hot chocolate for tonight's game. Additionally, since I'll be there, expect a loss...lol:)

Humbly serving our kids,
Che

Band Booster Family,

Prelude: CONGRATULATIONS to everyone on the "EXCELLENT" rating for VBODA Competition! Another great weekend of events honoring Matt Keeports & his family…such a blessing

Great...the football team is 2-0 in my absence for the past two weeks! We should get a loss next Friday since I'll be there for Seniors Game;)

First of all, THANK YOU to ALL the parents, siblings, student helpers, friends, and anyone else that volunteered! This included getting the rental truck, sizing/fixing uniforms, loading/unloading the trucks, and so much more.
NOTE: I'm going to do something fairly risky & that is to recognize & thank everyone. However, because of my old age, I'm certain that I'll probably miss someone. If I do, please send me an e-mail; so, I can correct my oversight:

Second, THANK YOU to Mr. Burke, Mr. Helm, and the other assistants! Since I work so closely with them, I get to see how they're educating our students. It's more than music; it's the whole person concept--hard work, integrity, and character building...these are life lessons:)

Third, please do three things for me:
- Congratulate your kid & give them a big hug
- Ask them how they can improve as an individual to help the band get better
(for example more practice, help someone else, etc)
- Ask yourself how you can help your kid as a Band Booster to get better for
the band (for example volunteer some of your time...they grow up quickly &
you don't want to miss it)

Fourth, a few reminders for next week & upcoming events for October:
26,27 m.b. rehearsal 2:30-4:30pm

28 SENIOR FOOTBALL GAME
- Atsuko Russell has volunteered for the 5th straight year to lead the boutonnieres-making effort to recognize our senior students. Many of you have shown interest in helping. Please meet @ 6 pm, Thur, 27 Oct @ our home: 6506 Langleigh Way, Alexandria, VA 22315. If you plan on attending, please reply, so we can get a count of how many volunteers to expect If you already know how to make boutonnieres, that's great. However, if it's your 1st time, then please watch the following YouTube link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOAcOSwlKOc
Please bring scissors, if you have them. The seniors will wear the boutonnieres during their half-time recognition @ Fri, 28 Oct home football game

- For the Seniors' Football Game, Fri, 28 Oct, we'll need parents of non-seniors to really help as much as possible because all the parents of seniors will be on the field @ halftime with their senior student. Usually, 1 song, then students & parents meet up front…names are announced & kids note is read. Orange & white balloons used & goody bags passed out.

- I believe that Erin Fitzsimmons is working on the pictures of seniors that will be displayed during the game

> Hi Che,

I was wondering if you may want to send out a separate email just to remind everyone of the current fundraisers - Uno's day and Fruit Sale. Only 2 more weeks for the fruit sale. It's easy to forget about these things, especially if they're near the end of a very long email. Please also attach the customizable document since it never made it to the band website and also mention that it is in your email instead of on the band website, if anyone wants to use it. You can feel free to use any of the prose from the fruit sale announcement on the website that you feel is appropriate. Let me know if you need any other information.

Thanks,
Linda

Prelude:  CONGRATULATIONS to everyone on the “EXCELLENT” rating for VBODA Competition!  Another great weekend of events honoring Matt Keeports & his family…such a blessingJ

Great...the football team is 2-0 in my absence for the past two weeks!  We should get a loss next Friday since I’ll be there for Seniors Game;)

First of all, THANK YOU to ALL the parents, siblings, student helpers, friends, and anyone else that volunteered!  This included getting the rental truck, sizing/fixing uniforms, loading/unloading the trucks, and so much more.

NOTE: I’m going to do something fairly risky & that is to recognize & thank everyone.  However, because of my old age, I’m certain that I’ll probably miss someone.  If I do, please send me an e-mail; so, I can correct my oversight:

- Congratulate your kid & give them a big hug

- Ask them how they can improve as an individual to help the band get better

(for example more practice, help someone else, etc)
