> Early New Year's resolution: Difficult to believe that we'll be celebrating a new year soon. For many people, they'll be pondering what they want to do better or to improve for the next year. Let me provide two suggestions from a Band Booster point of view: volunteerism & President/Vice President positions. Though we're ALL extremely busy, we ALL share the same goals of providing the best for our kids & share this responsibility. Regarding the Band Booster officer positions, they may seem overwhelming, but based on my personal experience, it's fairly easy managing the information flow on a weekly basis.
> FYI…I've been thinking. I'm not really sure how everyone reads their e-mails (webmail, on their smartphones, and so on). Depending on the way you access e-mail, you may only be able to read black & white texts with no hyperlink capability. However, a good way to read these e-mails is through the Hayfield Band Booster Blog page: http://www.hayfieldbandboosters.blogspot.com/

> Saturday, Dec 10, 8:30am - All District Band Auditions West Potomac H.S. (More info @ http://www.wolverineband.com/Wolverine_Band/District_Band.html )
> NOTE: The time indicated on the sheet is the half-hour time span that the student should be ready to audition; therefore, they must allow time before then to register and warm-up. The registration desk will open at 8:30 AM. At the registration desk, students will receive their audition number and further instructions.
> My thoughts as a 7th-year parent about All-District Band:
> - Practice early & often. Every year, I hear the exact same comments, "I should've started practicing sooner, & I should've practiced more." I have NEVER heard a student say that they started practicing too soon or too much: )
> - For those students that have never participated in All-District, I recommend that they find someone that has & pick their brain.
> - For all students, I recommend that they find someone that made All-District & ask for some pointers based on their experience.
> - For parents, plan for a few hours of waiting (bring something to read or do). You'll be sitting in the gym with snacks/drinks available for sale. Get to J.E.B. Stuart early enough for your kid to warm up, then they'll perform based on their number (1st come, 1st serve), then depending on how many performers for that instrument will have to wait for the "unofficial" list to be posted. If you don't want to wait, the "official" list should be posted within 72 hours. Additionally, Mr. Burke will let students know their final official placements: )

> 19 AP Scholars Reception – Jazz Band

Subject: Fruit is coming on Wednesday! Need help unloading truck!

The citrus fruit from Florida is scheduled to arrive at Hayfield on Wednesday 12/7 at approximately 1:00.

We will be the second delivery stop so the actual time may vary depending on how long it takes to unload at the first stop.  The truck driver will call us when he's on his way approximately a half hour before he arrives at Hayfield.

If you're available on Wednesday and have some flexibility in your schedule, we could sure use your help unloading the truck!  Please email me your home or cell phone number so we can contact you with the exact delivery time as soon as we hear from the truck driver.

Plan to meet us at the loading dock on the south side of Hayfield (7-11 side) to help unload the truck.

Hayfield High School Band Msg #31...Volunteerism for Indoor Concert Band Season Begins This Week

Band Booster Family,

Prelude: Because I had to clean & reformat my hard drive, I lost the pictures of senior band students for the final concert in Jun 2012.  So, if you previously e-mailed me your pics, please send them to me again.

First, again, thank you to both Kristy Baik & Dee Gardner for raising over a combined $300 for the UNOs and Boardwalk Burgers restaurant fundraisers.  It was fun seeing everyone at both of those events.

Second, just a reminder of the 2nd Band Booster Boardwalk Fresh Burgers and Fries Restaurant Fundraiser all day Wednesday, December 21…coupon attached.  Please share the coupon with all of your family & friends, post on Facebook or any other social media you can think of…let's get the word out!

Third, here's December schedule of events:

Wednesday, Dec 7, 2:00pm - Fruit arrives at loading dock.  We need your help in unloading the fruit! (Please use Sign-Up Genius or e-mail me to volunteer)

Thursday, Dec 8, - Concert! Band report time is 6pm. concert begins at 7pm pick up fruit before and after concert. (Please use Sign-Up Genius or e-mail me to volunteer)
Friday, Dec 9, 9:30am - Tiny Tots Concert. (Please use Sign-Up Genius or e-mail me to volunteer)

14    Chorus Concert - select wind ensemble members performing
19    AP Scholars Reception – Jazz Band

Fourth, miscellaneous items:
- Third payment of $136 due January 4th for the Band Spring Trip, 18-22 Apr to Atlanta, GA…other payments due February 1st & March 1st… http://www.hayfieldbands.com/id76.html
- Thank you to Band Booster parent/alumni Jean Martelli for sharing her photographic talents: Composite Pictures of your child are now available for purchase through www.jeaneimages.com using password, "2011band" when prompted.  Click on the link, and order pictures from this sight. A large composite picture will be made of the whole band from these pictures.

- If you have any tuxedos or accessories that you either want to donate, trade, or sell, please send me detailed info & I'll advertise through Band Booster e-mails
- Mr. Burke shared a UVA Band Day trip opportunity for 20 Feb…more info to follow
- Parents of seniors, it's not too early to be thinking about the 3 pictures (baby pic, kid pic, & senior pic) you want to use for the Final Concert, Wed, 6 Jun 2012

Again, if I haven't said it enough or lately, THANK YOU! You're rocking as parents/siblings, your Band students LOVE you for it, & the Band Booster Family is living the good life: )

Finally, our students REALLY NEED YOU! As most teenagers, they will NEVER admit this. Your VOLUNTEERISM is ESSENTIAL to THEIR SUCCESS!!! Additionally, they really do APPRECIATE seeing you @ their various events cheering for them. I hope to see ALL the parents volunteering @ various events throughout the year: ) If there is ANYTHING I can do or answer, please let me know. Please keep the following links for future reference:

Hi Che,

I have a tentative delivery date of Wednesday, Dec 7th at 1:00 for the fruit.  I won't know a definite date until it is shipped on the 4th and probably not a definite time until it arrives.  The delivery could be delayed if it rains in Florida when the fruit is scheduled to be picked.  Please request volunteers for the tentative date and time to help unload the truck.  The more the merrier.  Provided the fruit arrives by the next day, I'll also need volunteers after the concert on the 8th to help with distribution.  Please ask the volunteers to email me their contact info with the best way to reach them during the day.

Thanks,

Linda

Hayfield High School Band Msg #27...Thank You, Fruit Sale Extended, Tag Day Feedback, & Upcoming Events

Band Booster Family,

Prelude: Welcome back to all those that were out this past weekend for either the UVA Band Day, college visits, and other various trips.  Hope it provided some nice memories and greater insight to which colleges/universities might be in your future:

Because of the great volunteer spirit of the Band Boosters, I found it fairly easy being the Band Booster Prez for three different years. We’re still looking for volunteers for the last two officer positions: Prez & Vice Prez. Additionally, I’ll still be in the area, have a lot of pass-on notes, & you can use all my “spam” e-mails as a template: ) Please let me know by relpying.

First of all, THANK YOU to Sally Nicely, Michelle Booth, Jerod Tupik, Rogello Silverio, Melvin Cloud, Atsuko, and Jonathan Russell, and anyone else that volunteered that I may have missed! While it was a great exciting game to the end, since I was in attendance, we of course lost to Lee;(

Hayfield High School Band Msg #26...Thank You, Tomorrow's Home Football Playoff Game Volunteers, & Fruit Sale Extended

Band Booster Family,

Prelude: We're headed into a nice, long Veterans Day weekend. Please take a moment to reflect on our blessings & freedoms because of all those veterans. Thank you to all of the veterans that we have in the Band Booster Family!

First of all, what an OUTSTANDING night we had for the Marching Band Awds potluck! Thank you to all those that brought dishes, helped set-up, helped clean-up, and anything else to make this a successful event. Wasn't it great to see our kids get recognized:)

Second, please disregard the previous home football game volunteer info I sent...change in plans & needs. Those students that can attend will be in uniform & only do the pre-game...NO halftime. Because of this, we only need some volunteers to help with uniforms around 6 pm & a couple for very little equipment around 6 pm. Please reply & let me know since Atsuko & I will be there:)

Third, Linda Lichtman let me know that we've collected over $4,000 from the fruit sales. Based on parents request from last night, she's extending fruit sales through Monday, November 14.

Fourth, Michelle Booth is collecting inputs/ideas for future Tag Days. If you have a form, please fill it out & have your kids return to Mr. Burke. If you don't have a form, please send me an e-mail, and I'll get it to you.

Finally, again, THANK YOU for ALL you do as parents, siblings, or friends! The Band couldn't do it without you:)

Humbly serving our kids,
Che

Band Booster Family,

Prelude: There are a lot of lessons I've learned in life, and here are two gems:
1.       Family is more important than work
2.       Even with a full-time job in the military/Dept of Defense during almost a decade of wars, I made time for my kids
Because of the great volunteer spirit of the Band Boosters, I found it fairly easy being the Band Booster Prez for three different years.  We're still looking for volunteers for the last two officer positions: Prez & Vice Prez.  Additionally, I'll still be in the area, have a lot of pass-on notes, & you can use all my "spam" e-mails as a template: )  Please let me know by relpying.

First of all, THANK YOU to ALLthe parents, siblings, student helpers, friends, and anyone else that volunteered!  With great weather, today's Hayfield Farm Parade was the largest one I've seen in my seven years as a Band Booster.

Second,upcoming events for November:
Nov 9      MARCHING BAND AWARDS Potluck/Supper - 6:00 pm:
On Wednesday, November 9, 2011, the Marching Band will hold our annual "Awards Potluck/Supper" at the school, Middle School Lecture Hall at 6 pm. It will begin with a quick 5-10 minute 2011 Marching Band journey video, followed by food/drinks, then onto student-led awards, ending with Director awards. PS: For the potluck/supper, please plan on bringing the following based on your last name beginning with:
A-M = Side dish & dessert
N-Z = Main dish
The Band Boosters will provide sodas and paper products and utensils.
NOTE: If you take pictures/videos of our band students, I request that you either e-mail them to me or put them on CD/DVD & pass them to my son, Justin Russell; so, I can use them for the slide show during the Marching Band Awards, Wed, 9 Nov

Nov 11, 18, & 25   Football Playoffs:
Assuming the Hayfield football team will be in the playoffs, we may have a few more home football games; however, @ this time, we don't know for certain.  If we do have playoff games @ home, we will have the opportunity to shine again in terms of volunteer opportunities.  I'll keep you posted.

Third, miscellaneous items:
-          Second payment of $136 for November 1st for the Band Spring Trip, 18-22 Apr to Atlanta, GA…other payments due in January 4th, February 1st, & March 1st… http://www.hayfieldbands.com/id76.html
-          Thank you to Linda Lichtman for volunteering to organize Band Fruit Sale Fundraiser, which ends this week, Nov 4.  Please see attached forms and share the following link http://www.hayfieldbands.com/id33.html with all of your family & friends, post on Facebook or any other social media you can think of…let's get the word out

Band Booster Family,

Prelude: There are a lot of lessons I’ve learned in life, and here are two gems:

1.       Family is more important than work

2.       Even with a full-time job in the military/Dept of Defense during almost a decade of wars, I made time for my kids

Because of the great volunteer spirit of the Band Boosters, I found it fairly easy being the Band Booster Prez for three different years.  We’re still looking for volunteers for the last two officer positions: Prez & Vice Prez.  Additionally, I’ll still be in the area, have a lot of pass-on notes, & you can use all my “spam” e-mails as a template: )  Please let me know by relpying.

First of all, THANK YOU to ALL the parents, siblings, student helpers, friends, and anyone else that volunteered!  With great weather, today’s Hayfield Farm Parade was the largest one I’ve seen in my seven years as a Band Booster.

Second, upcoming events for November:

Nov 9      MARCHING BAND AWARDS Potluck/Supper - 6:00 pm:

On Wednesday, November 9, 2011, the Marching Band will hold our annual “Awards Potluck/Supper” at the school, Middle School Lecture Hall at 6 pm. It will begin with a quick 5-10 minute 2011 Marching Band journey video, followed by food/drinks, then onto student-led awards, ending with Director awards. We ask that you bring a dish/items to share by 5:45 pm to the food/drink tables: )

Assuming the Hayfield football team will be in the playoffs, we may have a few more home football games; however, @ this time, we don’t know for certain.  If we do have playoff games @ home, we will have the opportunity to shine again in terms of volunteer opportunities.  I’ll keep you posted.

Third, miscellaneous items:

-          Second payment of $136 for November 1st for the Band Spring Trip, 18-22 Apr to Atlanta, GA…other payments due in January 4th, February 1st, & March 1st http://www.hayfieldbands.com/id76.html

-          Thank you to Linda Lichtman for volunteering to organize Band Fruit Sale Fundraiser, which ends this week, Nov 4.  Please see attached forms and share the following link http://www.hayfieldbands.com/id33.html with all of your family & friends, post on Facebook or any other social media you can think of…let’s get the word out

-          Thank you to Dee Gardner for volunteering to organize Band Booster Boardwalk Fresh Burgers and Fries Restaurant Fundraiser all day Tuesday, November 22…coupon attached.  Please share the coupon with all of your family & friends, post on Facebook or any other social media you can think of…let’s get the word out

-          As we prepare for the indoor concert/symphonic season, one of the lessons learned these past six years, is that the students ALWAYS say that they wish they had started practicing sooner & more for All-District Auditions, scheduled for Sat, 10 Dec.  Parents need to encourage their students put extra personal time into this: )

-          If you have any tuxedos or accessories that you either want to donate, trade, or sell, please send me detailed info & I’ll advertise through Band Booster e-mails

1.       Reply to me if you can use the following tux donated by the Lichtman family: 34R Jacket, 28R Pants (28" inseam hemmed), bow tie, cummerbund.
