Hayfield Band Boosters (Message 5): Urgent Volunteer Needs

Greetings all,

The Booster organization runs on volunteer power.  There are a lot of needs to support an effective band program.  Lets all do our part to make this band year a great experience for our kids. Please consider stepping up to fill some of the many needs of the organization.  Without volunteers, some things simply won't get done.

Needs for the week

Uniforms.  Need willing hands to help with hemming the uniform pants, replacing buttons, etc.  If you have an hour or two to devote, sign up on Signup Genius & meet us in the uniform closet tonight at 5:30.

Hawk Flight.  Need a volunteer for Wednesday evening, 28 August and Thursday morning, August 30.  You will be positioned in the gym and your role will be to hand out Booster, Patron and Fruit Sale information.

Tag Day.  Tag Day is the primary fundraiser for the Band Boosters.  Need to identify a freshman or sophomore parent as soon as possible to shadow and observe Michelle Booth and Ellen Hishta as they prepare for Tag Day.  Michelle's daughter is a senior and we need to ensure we have a team next year to continue the great work she's done on this project.  Please send me a note if you are willing to work on this project.

Reminder

Pot Luck Dinner.  The annual back-to-school pot luck dinner will be held on 29 August.  Dishes will be assigned by last name as follows:

    A-E     Entrees
    F-M    Side Dishes
    N-Z     Desserts

Please ensure your name is on containers that must be returned.  Also, if possible, please bring the appropriate serving utensils for your dishes.  Dishes should be dropped off in the Middle School cafeteria at 5:45 p.m.  At 6:00 p.m., the students will present an exhibition in the parking lot at the back of the school.  Dinner will begin immediately following the exhibition.  We are still looking for a volunteer to assist with setup, and serving for the dinner.

Thank you for taking a minute to hear about a newly formed Symphonic Orchestra, which will meet on Monday evenings at Lanier Middle School in the Fall.  I conducted the American Philharmonic String Ensemble for nine years, and left to begin my own non-profit Youth Orchestra two years ago. We just formed a Symphonic Orchestra, and we are looking for a few young musicians to fill out our woodwind/brass/percussion section for the upcoming 2013/14 season. Our website has a host of information about our organization that I hope you will take a moment to look through.  www.tcsyo.org   We keep our costs down to keep our membership fees low ($690.00) and we are offering scholarships for the following instruments this coming season for Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet and Trombone.

It is my hope, that you will post this information on your Band Booster's website and also forward my email/this information to the band students at Hayfield Secondary School.  If you are no longer in this important position, please forward this information to the current Booster President.

You are welcome to call me directly to learn more about the scholarships, the program and the audition requirements (as well as any interested students)
703-867-3001 I hope to hear from you.

Thank you again,
Cheri
