Hayfield High School Band Msg #7...Tag Day #1 Estimates--WOW!

Band Booster Family,

Thank you to Robert Dowell, our treasurer for his work so far this school year! He reports the initial estimate total of $9,500 for today’s TAG Day #1. WOW! We’re only about $500 below our overall goal of $10,000. However, we’d like to get closer to our record total of $18,600 from last year. With Tag Day #2 next week, mail in donations expected, and other factors, it’s a possibilityJ It’s such a blessing to see people donating during a downturn in the overall US economy, tough times, loss damage from earthquakes, hurricane, and flash floods, and a myriad of other misfortunes. Additionally, who would’ve thought that we’d have such beautiful weather for today.

- Thank you to Erin Fitzsimmons, Michelle Booth, and Jocelyn Valdez for orchestrating this tremendous effort!

- Thank you to the students for walking the pavement in the heat with their uniforms with a sense of pride, spirit, and fun!

- Thank you to the parents/others for their volunteerism with a sense of humor!

- Thankful for living in a community that is willing to give during difficult times.

- Thank you to anonymous donuts & coffee provider;)

- Also, I heard that the Hayfield football team won 16-12!

NOTE: I’m going to do something fairly risky & that is to recognize & thank everyone. However, because of my old age, I’m certain that I’ll probably miss someone. If I do, please send me an e-mail; so, I can correct my oversight:

Drivers: Melanie Hardy, Sally Nicely, Jeff Eyink, Linda Lichtman, Emma & Roger Silverio; Ken Stefanek, Jessica Tyeryar, Sharon Fussell, Soliman Valdez, Leslie Bell, Cynthia Rodriguez, and Hsin Chang

Money counters & other activities: Jocelyn Valdez, Michelle Booth, Atsuko Russell, Elsa & Robert Palting, Emma & Roger Silverio, Dottie & Allison Andrews, & Robert Dowell

Additionally, many of the volunteers did double duty early in the morning putting address labels on the envelopes left over from Tag Day stapler party.

Miscellaneous items:

- In preparation for TAG Day #2, next Sat, 17 Sep, we may need volunteers to meet again this week to make more packets (date/time to be determined)

- Michelle, Jocelyn, & Erin will send out another list identifying groups/drivers for next week

- Thank you again to the volunteer drivers last Wed that helped get our students back & forth for instrumental appreciation performance @ Island Creek Elementary

- If we go to Lane Elementary, I’ll send out an e-mail requesting for volunteer drivers again (date/time to be determined)

- If you take pictures of our band students, I request that you either e-mail them to me or put them on CD & pass them to my son, Justin Russell; so, I can use them for the slide show during the Marching Band Awards, Wed, 9 Nov

- Still looking for a volunteer to organize an UNOs restaurant food fundraiser for the Marching Band (date/time to be determined)…Atsuko Russell has done this before & is willing to help

- Parents of seniors, it’s not too early to be thinking about the 3 pictures (baby pic, kid pic, & senior pic) you want to use for the Final Concert, Wed, 6 Jun 2012

Based on the rest of the week, attached is the most current Excel spreadsheet with volunteers to include those that I’ve noted on Sign-Up Genius. We still need a few volunteer slots filled. Please see either Sign-Up Genius (http://signupgenius.com/go/hssband1 ) or the attached Excel spreadsheet. Hope to see you all @ multiple events to support & cheer on our students.

Finally, our students REALLY NEED YOU! As most teenagers, they will NEVER admit this. Your VOLUNTEERISM is ESSENTIAL to THEIR SUCCESS!!! Additionally, they really do APPRECIATE seeing you @ their various events cheering for them.
