Band Booster Family,

Good morning…rise & shine!  Looks like a great day for Tag Day.  See everyone @ 8 am in the band roomJ

Based on the rest of the week, attached is the most current Excel spreadsheet with volunteers to include those that I’ve noted on Sign-Up Genius.  We still need a few volunteer slots filled.  Please see either Sign-Up Genius (http://signupgenius.com/go/hssband1 ) or the attached Excel spreadsheet.  Hope to see you all @ multiple events to support & cheer on our students.

Finally, our students REALLY NEED YOU!  As most teenagers, they will NEVER admit this.  Your VOLUNTEERISM is ESSENTIAL to THEIR SUCCESS!!!  Additionally, they really do APPRECIATE seeing you @ their various events cheering for them.  I hope to see ALL the parents volunteering @ various events throughout the year: )  If there is ANYTHING I can do or answer, please let me know.  Please keep the following links for future reference:

Band Booster Family,

First of all, here is change #39 to 1st home game vs Jeb Stuart: hosting the JEB Stuart Raiders at Lee High School in Springfield on Saturday, September 10th at 10 AM.  The ticket price is $5 and the game will begin promptly at 10 AM.

NOTE: Mr. Burke has spoken to the school committee & said that the Marching Band will NOT be @ the game because of our planned Tag Day.

Secondly, reminder for the Tag Day weather plan:

- Nice day, meet in Band Room @ 0800 with students wearing band uniforms with instruments & volunteers being groggy;)

- Only rain, meet in Band Room @ 0800 with students wearing band t-shirt without instruments & volunteers being groggy & soggy…I crack myself upJ

- If there are weather alerts/advisories, tornadoes, lightning, and so on, we'll postpone or cancel...to be determined

NOTE: Either late tonight or more likely early Saturday, Mr. Burke will make the call, let me know, I’ll send out an e-mail, & have Band webpage updated with decision if postponed or cancelled as soon as possible

Again, thank you for your flexibility, patience, & understanding!  With regard to Tag Day (but actually for every other event), our #1 concern is the SAFETY of our kids!  So, I’ll be giving my annual safety speech tomorrow morningJ  With the economy & other factors, my Tag Day goal for this year is $10,000.  If we make more, then that will be a blessing.

Thirdly, just a few thoughts:

-          Thank you for everyone forwarding me alert messages from Hayfield school, Fairfax County Public Schools, President Obama, cafeteria ladies, and other sources that I have already signed-up for.  Though I really appreciate it, I’m already plugged in & don’t need those kind of general messages forwarded to me by 60 different band parentsJ

-          However, if you have unique information from a unique source, then yes, please bring it to my attention.

-          Though I’m a caveman, I’ve been involved with the band now for my 7th year & 3rd as prez; so, I have a pretty good understanding of how to keep everyone updated with the general info.

-          Mr. Burke keeps me informed; so, I can forward them to you.

-          I love answering the unique individual questions, so, please keeping sending those.

-          I do have a job during the day; so, please don’t get to upset if I can’t answer until I come home—unless, it’s an absolute emergency.

-          As a retired US Air Force officer, I have planned for multiple wars, led hundreds during wartime, responsible for many lives, worked budgets over $50 billion; so, please trust that I can handle most Band Booster concerns/issuesJ

Fourthly, so far from what I’ve seen (great volunteerism, high enthusiasm, and outstanding concern for our students), I can tell that this is going to be a year to remember!  Let’s keep it upJ

Band Booster Family,

First of all, tomorrow’s 1st home game vs Jeb Stuart has been moved to Wakefield High School in Arlington, VA!  Report time for travel band is 5:15pm in the Band Room--no uniforms.  Busses plan to return about 10:30pm @ Hayfield.  Mr. Burke is only asking for 2 bus chaperones.  He can probably take up to 4.  So, the first 4 volunteers to e-mail me will be taken.  Everyone else that wants to go, will need to find their own transportation.

NOTE: Everyone that volunteered for the 1st home game no longer needs to volunteer.  I need everyone that volunteered either by e-mail or Sign-Up Genius to reply to me confirming that they understand they no longer need to volunteer for the 1st game.

Secondly, here is the Tag Day weather plan:

- Nice day, meet in Band Room @ 0800 with students wearing band uniforms with instruments & volunteers being groggy;)

- Only rain, meet in Band Room @ 0800 with students wearing band t-shirt without instruments & volunteers being groggy & soggy…I crack myself upJ

- If there are weather alerts/advisories, tornadoes, lightning, and so on, we'll postpone or cancel...to be determined

NOTE: Either late Friday or early Saturday, Mr. Burke will make the call, let me know, I’ll send out an e-mail, & have Band webpage updated with decision if postponed or cancelled as soon as possible

Again, thank you for your flexibility, patience, & understanding!  With the economy & other factors, my Tag Day goal for this year is $10,000.  If we make more, then that will be a blessing.
