Hayfield Band Boosters (Message 38): Booster Update

Boosters,

The Hawks had a fantastic Friday night at Westfield.   Thanks to Mike Adams and Melvin Cloud for travelling with the band to Westfield.  Thanks also to Mike, Melvin, Mike Sutton and Yvette Sutton for moving the equipment.  The Hawks did not advance in the playoffs so Friday night's game marked the end of the 2013 marching season.

Thanks to all of the Boosters and friends that participated in Restaurant Night at Firehouse Subs on November 13.  Thanks to Kristy Baik for organizing another fantastic fundraising event.

Finally, thanks to the parents and siblings that attended the Awards Dinner on November 14.  This was the largest Band Pot Luck that I've observed in my years at Hayfield.    Your generosity yielded more than enough food to feed the crowd that filled the Middle School Cafeteria.  The dishes you provided were all excellent!  Thanks to Melvin Cloud for creating a slide show of 2013 Marching Band highlights.  Finally, a special thanks to Kristy Baik, Janaia DeShields, Cara Rawlings, Julie Do, Emily Comsti, Eva Romero, and Bobbie Yoshida for helping with set-up, serving and clean up for the dinner.  We could not provide this type of support without your can-do attitudes.

The Fruit Sale ended last week.  The Bands sold almost 300 boxes of fruit during the fundraiser.  Thanks to all who supported the sale.   I-tunes Gift Cards were presented during the Awards Dinner to this year's top sellers who collectively sold 101 boxes of fruit.  This year's top sellers were Jonathan Baik, Elissa Lichtman, Maris Copeland, and Reese Cloud.

This year, one-third of the fruit (100 boxes) was sold online.   We will continue promoting online sales in the future.  We are developing tools (e.g., sample e-mails with the link to the online sales site) for next year's sale to simplify the online option.  Our goal is to make it easy for you to send e-mails with the link and your student's information to friends and family.  Another sales approach used this year was posting the sales information to Facebook.  We are always open to suggestions to improve the Fruit Sale so if you have ideas, please send them to me.  For families with graduating seniors, we hope that you will support the Fruit Sale in future years.  The sale usually begins after Columbus Day and runs for a few weeks. You  will be able to find ordering information on the band web site under the Fruit Sale tab.

We expect the fruit to arrive on December 3.  Fruit distribution is tentatively scheduled for December 5.  More information will be provided as we get closer to the delivery date.

Spring Trip.  The Spring Trip is planned for May 1-3.  This year the band will be traveling to New York, New York. The purpose of the trip is to perform and participate in an informal workshop with highly skilled clinicians at a leading national university.  The trip includes bus transportation, two nights lodging, clinicians' honoraria, two breakfasts, one lunch, three dinners, a ticket to a major Broadway performance, and admission to New York attractions.  Students will need to bring money for one breakfast, two lunches, and leisurely shopping.  The cost is $600 and will be divided into 5 payments of $120.00.  Payment #3 is due on January 10.  The remaining payment schedule follows:  Payment 4 is due by February 7; and Payment 5 is due by March 7.

Checks should be made payable to Hayfield Secondary School.  Payment 5 may be adjusted using any credit in a student's fundraising account (from Tag Day participation or fruit sales).  There are also chaperone opportunities for the trip.  Chaperone costs are the same as the student cost; payments are due on the same schedule.

Become a Band Patron.  You can support the band program with a Band Booster membership.  Annual membership is $10 per person or $20 per family.  For a donation of $30 or more, you will be designated a patron and recognized on the concert programs.  Your contributions help to defray the costs of music, uniforms and instruments.  All donations are tax deductible.  The form is available on the band web site http://hayfieldbands.com/id72.html.  If you are interested, please place your completed form and your contribution in the Band Booster box that is located in the Band Room.
