Greetings Boosters,
The Hawks had a fantastic Friday night! The football team kept it exciting down to the last 30 seconds. The Band was awesome on the field and in the stands. Finally, we had a chance to congratulate our Seniors as they completed their last home game. The 2013-14 Seniors are: Tanner Beck, Rebecca Booth, Dashaunte Dye, Staisha Glenn, Ben Hardy, Dylan John, Daniel Kingsley, Caroline Lear, Elissa Lichtman, Allison Loyola, Joyceanne Paxton, Ricardo Quintanilla Rodriguez, Stephen Redmon, Greg Rocha, Sonia Romero, Melissa Schmidt, Virginia Shih, Manna Tadelle, and Mahogany Williams.
I'd like to thank all of the Boosters who supported us Friday night. We could not do it without your continued support.

This Week's Activities
Away Game. We will be playing Edison on Friday Night. The students will practice after school as usual. They will be dismissed to go home and will return to the school at 6:00 p.m. to depart for the game. We will need 2 chaperones to accompany the band to Edison. Please go to Signup Genius http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D49AEAD23A02-hssband2 and let us know if you will help.
Fruit Sale. The Fruit Sale is coming to a close! Orders were due on 1 November. However, I understand that many did not make that date. Sales will continue through November 5. Please have your student turn in the order forms and payment on November 6. Online orders will remain open through October 8. So please send the link https://www.floridaindianrivergroves.com/orderFundraising_pre11.asp?OrgId=593029 to those that still want to order. Note: The online site offers a wider variety of fruit and treat combinations. Additionally, when selecting home delivery, the buyer can elect to have the fruit delivered as soon as possible, pre-Thanksgiving or pre-Christmas. I have used the home delivery option to send fruit to friends and family and it works great. If you have questions about the fruit sale, please don't hesitate to send us a note.
Other Notes
Marching Band Awards Night. Awards Night is scheduled for November 14 at 6:00 p.m. It will be pot luck dinner. Entrees, side dishes and desserts will be assigned by last name. I will send out additional detail as plans are finalized.
November Restaurant Night. Our next fundraiser will be at Firehouse Subs, Kingstowne, on Wednesday, November 13. Firehouse Subs will return 20% of the total sales attributed to the Hayfield Band.
Send photos. I need band photos for a slide show that will be shown at the Marching Band Awards Dinner in November. If you have photos from any of the games, please share them with us. Please send them to Hawkbandbooster@aol.com.
Boys concert uniform. The concert season begins in December and there have been questions about the uniform requirement for boys. Boys require a black tuxedo with black cummerbund, white shirt, and bowtie. You can get them at JC Penny's, The Men's Wearhouse, or online. We have received feedback that the Formal Fashions Inc website https://www.formalfashionsinc.com/index2.php has been used successfully. This site offers a $92.50 package that includes the tuxedo, shirt, cummerbund and bowtie (select Value Packages under the menswear tab).
Spring Trip. The Spring Trip is planned for May 1-3. This year the band will be traveling to New York, New York. The purpose of the trip is to perform and participate in an informal workshop with highly skilled clinicians at a leading national university. The trip includes bus transportation, two nights lodging, clinicians' honoraria, two breakfasts, one lunch, three dinners, a ticket to a major Broadway performance, and admission to New York attractions. Students will need to bring money for one breakfast, two lunches, and leisurely shopping. The cost is $600 and will be divided into 5 payments of $120.00. Payment #2 was due on November 1. The remaining payment schedule follows: Payment 3 is due by January 10; Payment 4 is due by February 7; and Payment 5 is due by March 7.
Checks should be made payable to Hayfield Secondary School. Payment 5 may be adjusted using any credit in a student's fundraising account (from Tag Day participation or fruit sales). There are also chaperone opportunities for the trip. Chaperone costs are the same as the student cost; payments are due on the same schedule.
Become a Band Patron. You can support the band program with a Band Booster membership. Annual membership is $10 per person or $20 per family. For a donation of $30 or more, you will be designated a patron and recognized on the concert programs. Your contributions help to defray the costs of music, uniforms and instruments. All donations are tax deductible. The form is available on the band web site http://hayfieldbands.com/id72.html. If you are interested, please place your completed form and your contribution in the Band Booster box that is located in the Band Room.
