This Week's Activities

Homecoming Game.  We will be playing Mount Vernon on Friday Night.  Friday will be a busy day for the students.  They will rehearse from 2:30-4:00 p.m., then participate in the Homecoming parade at 4:30 p.m.  The parade route goes through Hayfield Farm and concludes at the school.  Pizza will be served at 5:30 p.m.  Afterward, the students will prepare for the football game.  There are many volunteer needs for Friday.  Please go to Signup Genius http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D49AEAD23A02-hssband2 and let us know where you will help.

Halloween Parade.  The Halloween Parade is scheduled for Sunday, October 27.  The band room will be open from 12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. for students to pick up instruments.  Students will meet at Hayfield Farm pool at 1:30 p.m.; the parade starts at 2:00 p.m.

Fruit Sale.  The Fruit Sale is underway!  Students are selling delicious fresh Florida navel oranges and red grapefruit through November 1.   The fruit is picked and shipped within 48 hours of delivery to our school, and is the best that Florida has to offer.   The fruit will be delivered in early December.

Encourage your student to ask everyone they know – family, friends, neighbors, teachers, former band families, etc. – if they would like to buy fruit. You can even ask your coworkers. You'll be surprised how many people really look forward to our fruit sale each year. Some will buy it to help the band, others will buy it because they like your kid, and many will buy it just because they really enjoy the fruit!  Remember:  Students will earn money in the form of credits to their spring trip accounts for each box of fruit you and they sell. The more they sell, the less the trip will cost. Some students have sold enough boxes to cover the final few payments of their trips.  Forms for the fruit sale were sent home with your student as well as e-mailed to you on Tuesday, October 15.  You can also get additional information from the Fruit Sale Website http://hayfieldbands.com/id33.html.
Other Notes

November Restaurant Night.  Our next fundraiser will be at Firehouse Subs, Kingstowne, on Wednesday, November 13.   Firehouse subs will return 20% of the total sales attributed to the Hayfield Band.

Send photos.   I'm still collecting band photos for a slide show that will be shown at the Marching Band Awards Dinner in November.  If you take photos during the games, please share them with us.  Please send them to Hawkbandbooster@aol.com.

Spring Trip.  The Spring Trip is planned for May 1-3.  This year the band will be traveling to New York, New York. The purpose of the trip is to perform and participate in an informal workshop with highly skilled clinicians at a leading national university.  The trip includes bus transportation, two nights lodging, clinicians' honoraria, two breakfasts, one lunch, three dinners, a ticket to a major Broadway performance, and admission to New York attractions.  Students will need to bring money for one breakfast, two lunches, and leisurely shopping.  The cost is $600 and will be divided into 5 payments of $120.00.  Payment #2 is due by November 1.  The remaining payment schedule follows:  Payment 3 is due by January 10; Payment 4 is due by February 7; and Payment 5 is due by March 7.

Checks should be made payable to Hayfield Secondary School.  Payment 5 may be adjusted using any credit in a student's fundraising account (from Tag Day participation or fruit sales).  There are also chaperone opportunities for the trip.  Chaperone costs are the same as the student cost; payments are due on the same schedule.

Volunteers Needed.  The Band Boosters run on volunteer power.  There are many needs throughout the year, particularly during football season.  Distributing uniforms, helping with pizza dinners, moving equipment, donating water and snacks, etc. are a few of the many needs.  Please pitch in so that we spread the workload.  Plus, your kids will get a kick out of seeing Mom and Dad!  We use Signup Genius to organize volunteers.   If you haven't volunteered this season, I encourage you to go to our Signup Genius site http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D49AEAD23A02-hssband2 and let us know where you will help.

Become a Band Patron.  You can support the band program with a Band Booster membership.  Annual membership is $10 per person or $20 per family.  For a donation of $30 or more, you will be designated a patron and recognized on the concert programs.  Your contributions help to defray the costs of music, uniforms and instruments.  All donations are tax deductible.  The form is available on the band web site http://hayfieldbands.com/id72.html.  If you are interested, please place your completed form and your contribution in the Band Booster box that is located in the Band Room.
