Hi Band Boosters!
Just a few reminders as we get ready for the National Memorial Day Parade Tomorrow ...
parents who can help with uniform prep please come between 9:45am and 11am (BYO Iron)
students report at 11am to rehearse and dress; students should have: black shoes, black socks and light-weight shorts and t-shirt to wear under the uniform
parent chaperones please wear some Hayfield attire: band booster shirt; other band shirt; other Hayfield shirt -- we'll have some extra band shirts for those of you who may need one
everyone (chaperones & students) should bring: a bag lunch; cold water; and sunblock
Thanks again to all of you who have offered to send in water and snacks; it's going to be a hot day, so I'm sure the kids will be so grateful for your contributions.
If you can't make it to the parade, it'll be streamed live online at the National Memorial Day web site:

HSS Band 2009-10.72 Some parade details
Hi Band Boosters!
Here are some last-minute details for Monday.
* We have about 20 parents signed up to chaperone. If you have an extra band booster t-shirt you wouldn't mind sharing; would you please bring it with you on Monday morning?
* We will load the truck with instruments and a big cooler with ice (Thanks, Kim Barber!) -- water and snacks will be loaded onto the truck and buses. Half the water/snacks will be distributed at the beginning of the parade; half will stay on ice in the truck for after the parade.
* After helping at the staging area; parents are free to watch the parade anywhere along the route. (We're not setting up 'stations' along the way as we originally thought.) After the parade, meet up at the loading area at the end of the parade route (17th & Virginia Ave).
* HELP NEEDED Monday morning: We are still getting the uniforms ready for their Prime-Time appearance .... Dottie and I will arrive at school around 9:45a to finish sewing and ironing ... if you can show up and help that would be appreciated .... BYOIron (especially an iron with a steam setting.) THANKS.
* LOOKING AHEAD - The end-of-year concert is Tuesday --- The talented and generous Atsuko Russell (thanks, Atsuko!) has volunteered to organize making boutonnieres for the Seniors who will receive recognition at the concert -- if you can help, please meet us in the band room between 2pm-4:30pm.
Please remember to check the band web site for details - and if you have questions, feel free to get in touch with me.
Looking forward to a fun day,
Lorraine Monaco

(I think I replied to everyone who offered to bring the water/snacks -- if you haven't heard back from me, please send me a reminder email. I apologize -- my 'inbox' got a little full this week --- it it truly WONDERFUL to know how supportive you all are as band boosters; you guys are GREAT!)
Special thanks to Dave Collins for driving the truck and Mike Adams for riding with him.
Chaperones: please remember to wear a Hayfield band boosters shirt. (If you need the proper attire; talk to me and we'll see what we can get you.)

HSS Band 2009-10.69 MEMORIAL DAY PARADE - help needed.
Hi Band Boosters,
We're stepping into high gear for the Memorial Day Parade: Monday, May 31 at 2pm in Washington DC.
The first rehearsal is tomorrow: Thursday, May 20 after school. All marching band, drumline, colorguard, MS drumline and any MS students interested in marching band are invited. (Talk to Mr. Burke or Mr. Helm if you're interested.)
PARENTS: Mr. Burke has requested help with the following:
1) Uniform fitters for kids who previously have not had a uniform. We'll fit uniforms at the after-school rehearsals, scheduled for May 20, 25, and 27th
2) A truck and driver(s) for equipment.
3) Chaperones, approximately 5-8. They need to help dress students, fit plumes in hats, disburse water, and attend children who appear sick or under-hydrated.
4) Water and snack foods for the bus ride.
Parents will not be allowed to walk with the band, so we may need to disburse them at key locations before the parade. Everyone needs to look representative of our group (band shirts, school paraphernalia, etc.)
If you can help with any of these items, please let us know (bandlsm@gmail.com )
We're still working out what time we'll leave on Monday; but note that the parade starts at 2pm. View details, information and maps at http://www.nationalmemorialdayparade.com/
Reminder: Band Booster Meeting tomorrow at 7:30pm in the band room
Finally, to all the students who played at the MS/HS Jazz band/Drumline concert Tuesday night -- wow ! What a great concert. For those of you who missed the concert, you can check it out on YouTube thanks to Che Russell.
Humbly serving our kids,
Lorraine Monaco

Dear parents of "Curtains" Pit musicians,
As you probably know, Drama Boosters is providing dinner for the cast, crew, and pit during these last long rehearsals. If your son or daughter has been partaking of those meals the last two days and plans to do so tomorrow, please send in $20 to help cover costs.
If your son or daughter would like a "Curtains" T-shirt, please send in an extra $10. The shirts should arrive tomorrow, and a variety of sizes will be available.
Please make your check payable to "Hayfield Drama Boosters." We also accept cash! Just have your son or daughter give the check/cash to Ms. Nugent, Mrs. Martelli, or to my daughter, Katie Hardy.
Thank you!!
~ Melanie Hardy
Tuxedo Sale - For guys who need a new tux (Thanks to Tim Keeports for sharing this info!)
JC Penny (Springfield) is having a very significant sale ahead of the major store renovation.
Most items in the store are on sale and we found high-gloss tuxedo shoes for $29, originally $70 (plus you can use the $10 coupon which recently came in the mail); only paid $19. They also have Tuxes, shirts, ties, etc. similarly marked down. Good deal ahead of the next event/year, especially if folks kids have grown (have any of them not)?
Seniors (parents of Seniors)
Please send your slide-show photos and a few lines about your Senior for the Concert Program to Mary Anne Mulligan by May 24: mamulligan@gmail.com THANKS!
Spring Concert: Tuesday, June 1 at 7pm (students will report earlier -- concert dresses for girls; tuxes for guys)
Lastly, Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful moms out there! I came across this video the other day (thanks to a good friend), and thought you might enjoy it too -- I'm sure we all recognize at least SOME of the phrases this fast-talking Mom sings in her 3 minutes of the WIlliam Tell Overture ... enjoy!
