(1) Marching Band starts up in just two weeks. Here's the rehearsal schedule (from the band web site http://www.hayfieldbands.com/)

August 17-21 (Mon-Fri) Evening rehearsals, 5pm-8pm
August 24-28 (Mon-Fri) Day rehearsals, 8am-5pm
August 28 (Friday) Exhibition and pot-luck, (time to be determined)
Aug 31-Sept 3 (Mon-Fri) Evening rehearsals, 5pm-8pm

Students are reminded to bring their forms and instrument, and wear sneakers so they're ready to march. For day rehearsals, don't forget sunscreen, water, lunch, and your instrument.

(2) Parent Coffee - On Wednesday, August 19, the band boosters will host a get-together for band parents at 7pm. We'd like this to be a welcome for new parents, and a reunion for veteran parents. If you'd like to help out, please reply to me. (The school is holding one of its "Hawk Fly-by" nights for parents to pick up forms for the school year from 4-7pm that evening; you can pick up your forms from the Fly-by and then drop by the band coffee.) Details on where we'll meet will be coming later.

(3) Pool Pizza Party - On Thursday, August 27 the band boosters invite all marching band students and their families to come down to Hayfield Pool after rehearsal for pizza and swimming. Boosters will supply pizza and drinks. We ask families to provide desserts and any fruit, chips, or other side dishes that you'd like to share. More details on exact time, etc. will come from Mr. Burke at rehearsals.

(4) Exhibition and pot-luck supper, Friday, August 28. After the second week of marching band, the students will perform an exhibition for us, and then the boosters will host a pot-luck dinner in the cafeteria. At the pot-luck, you'll have the chance to sign up for Tag Day, and for other volunteer opportunities. This year, we ask families with last names beginning with A-M to bring a side dish or dessert and names N-Z to bring a main dish to share.

(5) Schedule change for fall rehearsals -- This is a reminder of Mr. Burke's announcement at the end of June: evening marching band practice will be on Tuesdays this fall, 6pm-8pm (instead of Wednesdays) and after-school practices will be on Wednesday and Thursday, 2:30pm-4:30pm. Please check the band web site for any updates or changes http://www.hayfieldbands.com/

(7) Booster T-Shirts - Mary Anne Mulligan has again offered to handle our booster t-shirts (Thanks, Mary Anne!). There'll be a chance to order shirts at the parent coffee on August 19; and we will place a second order after the pot-luck on the 28th. (We'll have sample shirts at the coffee and at the pot-luck so new parents can check out the design; sizes, etc.)

(8) Band blog --- This year, all band emails will also be sent to a new blog at http://www.hayfieldbandboosters.blogspot.com/ --- If you're away from your email, or if you want to refer to past emails to get some info; you can check out the blog. I'm hoping it's just one more way to make it easier for us to share information about band activities.

Finally, if you have any suggestions or questions about band activities, please feel free to get in touch with me. I look forward to hearing from you, and I'm looking forward to a great year for Hayfield bands!

Regards,
Lorraine Monaco
