Greetings Boosters,

The band year has officially begun.  The students began night rehearsals tonight.  Night rehearsals will continue through 29 August.  I wanted to pass on some other items for your planning.

Band Parent Coffee.  The Band Parent Coffee for both new and returning parents will be help Thursday night in the band room.  This is an opportunity to hear about the 2013-14 band year and to have your questions answered.  We will begin at 7 p.m.

Pot Luck Dinner.  The annual back-to-school pot luck dinner will be held on 29 August.  We will assign dishes (entrees, side dishes or desserts) for the event by last name. The time, location and dish assignment will be provided in a future update.

Signup Genius.  Signup Genius will be our method that you will use to volunteer throughout the year.  We are in the process of inputting the volunteer opportunities and will notify you by e-mail when Signup Genius is activated.

Marching Band Uniform Preparation.   We will be assigning uniforms the week of 26 August during the evening rehearsals (5-8 p.m.).  I am looking for volunteers to help with fitting and repairing (primarily button replacement) uniforms.  Please let me know if you are available to help.

Capitol Symphonic Youth Orchestra.  I am sharing an opportunity for your student to participate in the Capitol Symphonic Youth Orchestra for the 2013/14 season.  Note scholarships are available for Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet and Trombone.  Additional information from the Director is provided at the bottom of this update and also at their web site www.tcsyo.org.

Thank you for taking a minute to hear about a newly formed Symphonic Orchestra, which will meet on Monday evenings at Lanier Middle School in the Fall.  I conducted the American Philharmonic String Ensemble for nine years, and left to begin my own non-profit Youth Orchestra two years ago. We just formed a Symphonic Orchestra, and we are looking for a few young musicians to fill out our woodwind/brass/percussion section for the upcoming 2013/14 season. Our website has a host of information about our organization that I hope you will take a moment to look through.  www.tcsyo.org   We keep our costs down to keep our membership fees low ($690.00) and we are offering scholarships for the following instruments this coming season for Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet and Trombone.

It is my hope, that you will post this information on your Band Booster's website and also forward my email/this information to the band students at Hayfield Secondary School.  If you are no longer in this important position, please forward this information to the current Booster President.

You are welcome to call me directly to learn more about the scholarships, the program and the audition requirements (as well as any interested students)
703-867-3001 I hope to hear from you.

Thank you again,
