HSS Band 2009-10.59 Spring and Summer Activities: Memorial Day Parade; spring trip, etc.
Hi Band Boosters,
Happy Spring to all of you!
To make it easier for all of us to manage our calendars, Mr. Burke has posted the schedule of activities for Spring and Summer, including everything from the Spring Trip to the Marching Band Clinics next August. There are a LOT of important dates to put on our calendars, so please check it over.
I especially wanted to mention the Memorial Day Parade for the Marching Band in Washington DC on May 31. As far as I know, this is the first time (or - the first time in a number of years anyway!) that Hayfield has had the honor of participating in such a large event. Please remember to save that date; more details about transportation, time, etc. will be announced as we get closer. (Also - note that there are three rehearsals scheduled the week before: May 20, 25, and 27.)

HSS Band 2009-10.57 CONGRATS to Hayfield Bands!
Wow -- absolutely wonderful job by the Symphonic band on Friday evening and Wind Ensemble today at the District 10 Band Festival.
Symphonic band scored an overall rating of II - Excellent (including a I - Superior - on sight reading).
The Wind Ensemble got straight I's from all the judges --- and a I on sight reading, for a perfect score of all I's (Superior)!!!
Hard work by all the students -- and Mr. Burke -- really paid off in the festival with some great (I mean "superior!") performances. Congratulations to one and all!
And, parents -- thanks for all your support as well. One of the volunteers at South County today told us that Hayfield had the largest group of supporters/helpers he had seen all weekend.
Proud to be a band parent,
Lorraine Monaco

HSS Band 2009-10.56 SENIORS: time to send photos to Mary Ann Mulligan for slide show
We are really fortunate because one of our band parents has again volunteered to put together the slide show of Seniors at the June concert. THANKS, Mary Ann!!!
So, parents of seniors, can you please help Mary Ann get started on this project by sending her three photos (usually baby; school years; graduation) --- you can email her the .jpg photos to mamulligan@gmail.com or else put LABELED photos in a LABELED envelope and send them into the band booster mailbox -- she can scan the photos and return them to you.
I know I always look forward to seeing this fun tribute to our graduates.
Humbly serving our kids,
Lorraine Monaco

HSS Band 2009-10.55 Handout from the concert; Recap of Festival Schedule
What a great concert Tuesday evening; hats off to the students and directors for great performances (even after missing so many rehearsals in February!).
At the concert, Mr. Burke mentioned a handout that explains the band program and course selection -- and also gives examples of how to fit band classes into your High School program. In case you didn't get a chance to pick one up, the handout is attached here. It should be a big help as students are starting to fill out their course selections for next year.
And, once again, here's the schedule for our Festival Weekend.
