Hayfield Band Boosters (Message 43): Chaperones Needed

Boosters,    

  

The band is headed to UVA for a clinic on February 7.  We need at least 2 chaperones to accompany the band.  If you can help, please sign up at our Signup Genius site  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D49AEAD23A02-hssband2 .  Please sign up as soon as possible so that we ensure that we have all the support needs covered.  

Other Notes

Reminder:  It's All District Weekend.  Hayfield is hosting All District Weekend, January 30 -  February 1.  The Band Boosters are manning a hospitality suite for the Directors & providing concessions for the student participants on January 31 and February 1.  If you are interested in volunteering for the event, there are still opportunities available.

Transition Planning.   We are looking for volunteers for the Band Booster Treasurer position.  Ken Lichtman has graciously served for two years; his daughter will graduate this spring.  If you are willing to shadow Ken through June and to assume this role, please send me a note.  Likewise, John and I will have Seniors for the 2014-2015 school year.  I would like to identify volunteers to shadow us so that we can begin the transition during the Summer of 2014--you will assume the President/Vice President roles for 2015-16 school year.  If you have questions or would like to discuss the requirements of any of the positions, please send a note or call.

  

Spring Trip.  The Spring Trip is planned for May 1-3.  This year the band will be traveling to New York, New York. The purpose of the trip is to perform and participate in an informal workshop with highly skilled clinicians at a leading national university.  The trip includes bus transportation, two nights lodging, clinicians' honoraria, two breakfasts, one lunch, three dinners, a ticket to a major Broadway performance, and admission to New York attractions.  Students will need to bring money for one breakfast, two lunches, and leisurely shopping.  The cost is $600 and will be divided into 5 payments of $120.00.  Payment #4 is due February 7; payment 5 is due by March 7.  

 

Checks should be made payable to Hayfield Secondary School.  Payment 5 may be adjusted using any credit in a student's fundraising account (from Tag Day participation or fruit sales).  

 

Marching Band Photos.  The Marching Band Photos taken earlier in the season by Jean Martelli are now ready for viewing/purchase.   Individual as well as composite photos are available.  Orders can be direct shipped to you from the photo lab. Hayfield Band Boosters (Message 42): Booster Update

Happy New Year to all!   I hope that you had a wonderful holiday break.   

I want to update you on what has been happening with the band.  The Band kicked off its concert season on Thursday, December 12.  The Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and Wind Ensemble each presented a fantastic program.  Congratulations to all the students on a strong start for concert season!

The Wind Ensemble hosted the annual Tiny Tots Concert on December 13.   Many thanks to the following boosters who assisted with this important community event:  John and Ellen Hishta, Kelley John, Janaia DeShields, Bobbi Yoshida, and Eva Romero.  

The students auditioned for All District on Saturday December 14.  Hayfield had a fantastic showing this year.  The students selected for the All District Honor Bands include:

Congratulations to all of our students!  Jonathan Baik and Reese Cloud will also audition for the All-Virginia (All-State) Band at James Madison University in late February.   Congrats to Jonathan and Reese!

The Jazz Band performed for Broadway Night, Saturday, January 11.   The Band presented a amazing repertoire of Broadway tunes for the crowd.  Great job!

Planning for January

Hayfield Band Boosters (Message 41): Booster Update

Thanks to Linda Lichtman and Michelle Paxton for organizing the fruit pickup last Tuesday.  Thank also to all who helped with unloading the truck and distributing the fruit.  Volunteers included Mr. Burke's guitar class, Eva Romero and Mike Adams.  

 

The first concert of the season will be held Thursday, December 12, 7 p.m.  Students report for warm-up at 6 p.m.  Check the Band Bulletin page for updates.

 

The Tiny Tots Concert is scheduled for Friday morning, December 13, 9:30 a.m.  The Wind Ensemble will entertain pre-schoolers from schools surrounding Hayfield.  Thanks to those who have volunteered to support the concert.

Become a Band Patron.  You can support the band program with a Band Booster membership.  Annual membership is $10 per person or $20 per family.  For a donation of $30 or more, you will be designated a patron and recognized on the concert programs.  Your contributions help to defray the costs of music, uniforms and instruments.  All donations are tax deductible.  The form is available on the band web site http://hayfieldbands.com/id72.html.  If you are interested, please place your completed form and your contribution in the Band Booster box that is located in the Band Room.
