URGENT! Need at least 9 more parents to help with mattress sale tomorrow!
Ask not what your Marching Hawks can do for you, but what YOU can do for your Marching Hawks...
That's right, the Mattress Sale is this Saturday, 11/4! (Details in flyer attached.) This is a great way to bring home lots of bacon for the band program, but we CANNOT make this fundraiser a success without your help.
Therefore, we ask, plead, beg you to volunteer just 1 - 2 hours of your time to help manage the crowds. We need at least 9 more parents! As soon as possible, please sign up here---->https://www.signupgenius.com/index.cfm….
Mr. Burke has also asked the students to come out and go crazy, using their youth, enthusiasm, and energy to advertise curbside and draw in those crowds. So when you come on down to volunteer and check out the merchandise, don't leave your Hawk at home. Bring your Hawk with you--and hey, he or she may get the chance to dance around in th

This week in Band
Good morning –
I hope you all enjoyed a nice, quiet weekend and didn’t get too “walloped” in the rain storm! Here’s what’s going on in band this week:
· We are NOT playing this Friday’s away game. The Hawks are now in playoffs and we WILL play the first playoff game at home next Friday, November 10. We will be playing this show in the new uniforms, so please come check them out!
· Mattress Sale This Weekend – Saturday, 11/4! This is a great sale that could potentially bring in lots of money for the band program. Please consider volunteering for a 1-2 hour slot to help manage the crowds. It’s up on the SignUp Genius. Mr. Burke has also encouraged the kids to come out to help generate interest at the street level. Please let them come out and burn some energy on Saturday. From what I hear, someone might even be able to wear a mattress costume! ;)
· Awards Banquet: Please see the message from Ann Veiga that was sent out earlier today. We would like for parents to bring a dish to share and a 2-Liter drink. The Boosters will cover the rest (including dessert)!
I would like to give a big thank you to Tamara Stolpe, Lori Graziano, and Rachel Hamilton for unpacking the new uniforms and getting them organized, fitted, and ready to go for next Friday. Your help is very much appreciated. Thanks so much for taking time from your busy schedules to get this done!
I am off on vacation tomorrow and will miss seeing you all at the banquet next week. If I were there, I would say, “Thank you all for your continued support!” I know that we are constantly asking for your time, your muscles, your money, and your good cooking, but at the end of the day, this is for our kids and for their love of this wonderful band program. We couldn’t do it without you!
Cheers to a great weekend!

This Week in Band
Good afternoon, everyone –
I hope everyone is enjoying a great week so far! Here are a few updates/announcement from your band boosters this week:
· Concert Dress – It’s time to make sure your kids have concert attire as the first concert will be on December 7. Please have your young ladies try on their dresses from last year to see if they still fit. If not, they will need to be measured during class tomorrow and/or Friday to have a dress ordered for them. Gentlemen must wear a tuxedo with a wing-tip pleated shirt and black tie and cummerbund. A popular place to get tuxes for the guys is JC Penney. Please don’t wait until the last minute in case pieces need to be tailored!
· Away Game this Friday – Come out and support our team and band students at the away game in Annandale on Friday night. Please see the SignUp Genius if you would like to chaperone or provide snacks/water. Thank you!
· Mattress Sale – The mattress sale is on for November 4. I have attached the flyers and your kids should have brought home a packet explaining the event with extra flyers. Please tell your friends and family to come out and support their Marching Hawks and get a comfy new mattress, sheets or pillow. There are incentives for the kids who get referrals!
Have you “liked” our Facebook page? If not, please stop by and Like us to get up-to-the-minute announcements, thoughts, and photos/videos of the kids in action. https://www.facebook.com/HayfieldBandBoosters/
Thanks for all you do. Have a great rest of the week!

We need water!
Hello, again –
Thanks to everyone who has donated snacks this season and for those who signed up to donate tomorrow. Instead of snacks, though, we could really use cases of water. We need enough to get through pizza dinner tomorrow, the game, and the assessments on Saturday. If you are able to donate water, please sign up under snacks on the SignUp Genius for tomorrow’s game.
Thank you VERY much!

Saturday Performance and Booster Meeting Change
Good afternoon –
It’s a quiet-ish weekend on the marching band front, but we would love to see you on Saturday morning as the competition marching band performs the show for adjudicators to prepare for next weekend’s VBODA assessment. We are treating this performance as if we were preparing to take the field during halftime at a football game, so parent volunteers will be appreciated to help us get the show on the field. Here are the details:
Saturday, October 14
10:00am – Band reports to the band room to dress; pit crew to take instruments to the field
11:00am – Performance in the stadium for adjudicators. Parents and guests are welcome to attend!
After performance – 12:30pm – Clinic on marching to prepare for VBODA assessment
If you haven’t seen the show yet, please come out and see the hard work your kids have put into the marching band season!
NOTE: Due to the College Night activities on Monday, October 16th, the Band Booster meeting will be rescheduled to Monday, October 23rd at 7:00pm in the band room. Hope to see you all there!
Thank you all for your time and support!

Homecoming Week!
Good afternoon –
Congratulations to our Marching Hawks for the great showing at the North Stafford competition last Saturday! They have been working hard and it’s paying off.
Can you believe that it’s Homecoming already? This year, the HSS Activities Dept. has approved our band to perform the show BEFORE the game! Here’s the schedule for Friday:
3:00- students come down to band room, get ready for parade
4:00- head over to Hayfield Farm for parade
4:30- Parade
5:00- pizza and water dinner in band area, then dress for game
6:15- head outside
6:35- perform competition show, then head into stands (pit equipment can go back inside school)
7:00- choir sings star spangled banner
We could use volunteers to help with serving dinner promptly at 5:00 to give kids time to eat, get dressed and report to the field. We also need water and would very much appreciate donations of the small bottles of water for the kids in the stands. Please use the SignUp Genius so we know which volunteer slots need to be filled as we get closer to Friday.
Also…if you ordered spirit wear through the online store, your items will be available in the band room on Friday evening for pick up. If you are not able to pick up your items on Friday, please let me know so that we can make arrangements for pick up.
Looking ahead…
· 10/14, 10:00am – 12:30pm – Performance/Exhibition to prepare for the VBODA assessment. Parents/Guests are invited to watch the performance as well as help with uniforms and pit crew. J It will be as if we are setting up for a football game, so your help is appreciated! After the kids perform for the adjudicators, there will be a marching clinic for the band.
· Spring Trip: Forms were sent home for spring trip, but if the form didn’t make it from the band room to your hands, I have attached it to this message. You can also get the info on the Hayfield Bands website: http://www.hayfieldbands.com/hs-spring-trip-2018.html. Please note, the first deposit is due next week, October 13th.
Thank you all for your time and support! Hope to see you on Friday!

Weekend Successes
Good morning –
Hopefully, everyone (kids especially) have had a chance to sleep in today. Our kids worked so hard this weekend, and we should all be very proud of them!
First of all, thank you to all of the parents who chaperoned and brought in snacks and water for Friday’s game. Another win for Hayfield! (P.S. At this rate, don’t make solid plans for mid-November. I see a possible play-off scenario in our future…)
Second – Tag Day. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, we were able to make an additional $4,827.16 on Tag Day #2, bringing our grand total to $14,231.16 for both days! That’s amazing! Thank you very much to our Tag Day Chair, Theresa Larsen, for coordinating the days and getting us all out into the neighborhoods armed with envelopes and orange receipts. Big thanks to all of the parents who drove, organized, and counted money. Thank you to Mr. Burke for coming in early both days – especially after teaching all week and Friday night games. And most of all, thank you to the kids who sacrificed their Saturday mornings to go door-to-door explaining to strangers what this band program means to them. Their enthusiasm astounds me, and I am so proud of them!
And as if that wasn’t enough…our kids went to competition on Saturday evening and won SECOND PLACE in their class! We got a big trophy and also scored “Best Percussion”!
Looking ahead to next week –
· Marching Band rehearsals Tuesday – Thursday, 3:15 – 5:15pm
· Home Football Game – Friday, 9/22 – there is no school this day, so the band reports to at 5:15pm
· Please Note: The Band Booster meeting previously scheduled for tomorrow, 9/18, will now be an officers’ planning session. Please join us for the next scheduled Booster meeting on October 16 at 7:00pm.
Thank you all again for your time and support!

Hayfield Band Boosters Bylaws
Good Evening –
The Hayfield Band Boosters (acting) officers have been busy organizing for the new season. Part of getting organized includes adopting bylaws for the organization. Hayfield Band Boosters is a 501(c)(3) organization and as such, we must adopt bylaws to be in compliance with this distinction.
I have attached bylaws that have been written by the current officers. As a member of the Hayfield Band Booster organization, (if you have paid the membership fee), you will have an opportunity to vote to adopt and ratify these bylaws at our first band boosters meeting on Monday, August 21 at 7:00pm in the Band Room. Please take a moment to read through the attached document and bring any questions, concerns, or edits to the meeting on Monday evening. Also, at the meeting on Monday, we will vote on those who have volunteered to be officers to the Board of Directors.
I have also attached the Hayfield Band Boosters sign-up form. If you haven’t already, please consider becoming a member of the boosters. All proceeds of your membership fee and booster fundraising efforts go directly to supporting the Hayfield bands programs.
Thank you very much for your time and attention. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow evening at the potluck dinner (5:15pm in the Middle School Lecture Room) and again on Monday evening!
Best regards –
